Comp & Story Thread - what do you make & how'd you get there?
Currently ASO3 LMM PE, Hardware/Industrial Tech focus
Non-target, 3.7 GPA, engineering major
Started out in a PE analyst program. Lateraled to current fund at ASO
Base $165k, bonus $100k-$165k
T2/3 US city
RV trader/junior PM, not really sure what title to exactly give myself but I do have a well sized book. I can do some discretionary stuff too, it's a macro pod as a whole. I just like the RV stuff the most
Southern Semi target, 3.65 GPA, Applied math/stats
Started in S&T rates, moved to data sci for like six months and hated it, got an offer for a prop shop in Chicago, stayed there for 3 years, now I'm here
Base: 200k TC should be around 800-1m by end of year. I'm happy where I'm at because hours aren't too bad and I have good progression.
NYC/Chicago, fund has offices in multiple cities and I like to move around both sometimes.
Multiple titles but I prefer VP.
M&A for ~3yrs, MM TMT PE for ~5yrs, left to co-found a permanent capital rollup/HF
Non/semi-target, sub 3.5 GPA, finance major (switched from STEM)
TC ~$1.5m/yr + founder's equity: ~$400k base, mix of cash bonus + deferred comp
Non-tier city now (relocated to support family), planning to move to T2/T3 soon.
Wasn't a great student, sub 3.0 till I switched to finance which changed how I felt about school and got my shit together. Did a few internships (all unpaid) and had some side projects during undergrad, landed a corporate gig for FT, then lateraled to PE after getting promoted. Closed a mix of growth & buyout deals and got to mid-level. Became increasingly fed up with typical PE bullshit (politics, WLB, etc.) so took a sabbatical to figure out whether to go BSchool or shoot for HF. Had some success interviewing but got VERY lucky before committing to anything and met a few older smarter guys who helped iterate on an idea before pulling together a permanent vehicle. First acquisition was folding in a niche prop strategy to manage idle cash. Now executing a sector-focused rollup in a space that I love and life honestly couldn't be better.
You are the man
Right time right place IMO :)
Wow, that's amazing man! Great stuff, you are by all means crushing it
What are your hours like and how old are you if you don't mind me asking?
Likewise, this is personal but are you married / in a LT relationship and what's your view on this long term? Asking because given the presumably more entrepreneurial grind to get to the spot you are today, I imagine it took some sacrifices on this end but maybe not
