Competitiveness or just nosy?

I’ve recently joined a new shop, and there is a larger pool of juniors in this team. They’re mostly new as well (6 months) although more junior than me as they are fresh grads and I’ve been hired as an experienced hire.

This is my first time being in a team with such a big pool of juniors/peers my level. My question is, how do you interact with them but maintain a professional relationship with them at the same time?

They seem to be very clingy and nosy. It has gotten to a point where I will stand up with my laptop and they will ask me “what am I doing?”. I will come back from a meeting, and they will ask me who was the meeting with and how did it go. I’ll be doing a comps table and they will ask me what am I doing etc.

Look, I don’t mind the social interaction. We can have lunch/drinks and talk about work. But it has gotten to a point where I am scrutinised for everything I do, including talking to a senior (which will result in a “so what did you talk to him about?”). They will also ask me straight away.

They also seem to be very free because they like to talk via internal chat all day. My internal chat keeps blinking, which can get distracting because I need to focus on the task at hand.

Would it be rude to bring a black screen protector? How do I deal with nosy juniors who won’t leave me alone?
