He slowly unwrapped the test kit and removed the nasopharyngeal swab. Her breath drew in sharply, and she gulped. Sensing her nervousness,he sought out her eyes but she glanced sideways, unable to meet his gaze. He reached out, and gently stroked her cheek, faint as a butterfly. She looked up ever so briefly, and their eyes connected. Locked. He guided her head back with expert care. "This won't hurt a bit," he promised. She submitted. She was his. In his firm hand. He was in total control. "I'll be done before you even know it. You won't even feel it." Her focus wavered and blurred.
But he was wrong. She felt everything. It was a sensation she'd never forget. "Until tomorrow," he whispered. "You need two negative PCRs before you can leave the hospital. Think of me. Until tomorrow."
