Dating or Doomed
Dating an incoming first year IB analyst, looking for tips on how we can make it work. Seems like there is a lot of fearmongering around this topic. Open to all suggestions, date ideas and overall thoughts. Thank you!

Career Resources
In terms of priority? That is on the two of you. Most people (on here or in general) will prioritize the way they make money over personal relationships since rent is due next month and food needs to be on the table. If that means they are working 80-100 hours a week and don't have time for you or you're working when they are free, then so be it. That is the sacrifice IB requires and it's also the reason why so many IB analysts and associates leave. You don't get a "normal" life to have plans with friends all the time, you don't get the luxury of seeing family (even if they live in the same city as you), and romantic relationships are significantly impacted.
I'm not saying all relationships are doomed if someone is an Investment Banker, because obviously couples make it work all the time. But, it requires a lot of communication and extra effort on both of your parts to make it work. There's rarely ever a casual date night that is just happy hour drinks after work, so late night take out and movies or weekend drinks/lunch (that are potentially canceled for last minute work) are the best bets. I know that when I was working the constant long hours, relationships would fall apart because it's not the ideal way to date someone if everything is late at night or last minute. If you can make it work for a few years while they are in IB and they can leave to a Corp Dev or PE role (PE is bad, but not as bad as IB) then they get a lot more time on their hands and dating becomes much easier.
Communication is key. Be aware that plans may not always be that solid if work is to come first. Be flexible.
Only the confident people who know how to manage their time have a shot. From now on given how often these posts come up, if you have to ask then yes, you're doomed. Grow some.
