he has a very impressive life story, i'm still learning it myself but the key thing is that this guy is super tough mentally and physically proven by his experience as a Navy Seal & ultra marathon runner (e.g. ranked #2 in 320 mile running race, many other examples).
- grew up in abusive home, lots of dramatic events that scarred him
- had difficulties learning so he was an outcast (dyslexia, ADHD?)
- became overweight
- got inspired to join Navy Seals, lost like 100 lbs in 3 months to meet minimum criteria
- joined Navy Seals, did well (don't know too much about that)
- eventually picked up running and he's the type of guy who does ultra marathons on back-to-back weekends.
He's a no BS type of guy. He's not some fake motivational guru, the dude lets his achievements speak for themselves and tries to inspire others by sharing his story and mentality.
Excerpt #1:
"In 2005, David Goggins decided to take on an ultramarathon challenge which involved running over 3100 miles (5000 km) across the United States from San Francisco to New York City without taking any days off – a feat that no one had ever achieved before"
Story #2: He broke his ankle or something like that and kept running in one of the marathons, just a machine.
Piggybacking off this comment. He has an incredible life story. Some more crazy feats of his include..
- participated in 3 navy seal hell weeks
- he qualified for the Boston marathon without training (he couldn’t even run a mile the week before)
- he cheated his way through school and had the reading level of a third grader when he was in high school. He essentially had to teach himself how to read in order to graduate.
I highly recommend his books “Can’t Hurt Me” and “Never Finished”. I am not a huge fan of listening to books but you have to listen to the books versus reading them. They combine narration of the book with a running dialogue between david goggins and the narrator. It has a sort of podcast feel to it and Goggins provides more insight, details, and additional stories that are not found in the hard copy of the book.
Dude has more miles on his body than I have on my car.
I rode over 10,000 miles on my bike outside in 2019.
"If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." - Bruce Lee

Interview format was very relaxed. I think I mentioned one of my favourite books was Can’t Hurt Me, and we started chatting about Goggins when the VP said he also liked him.

Rumor has that he's still running around.
The guy is a straight up legend. Whenever I'm down I watch a video of his and I get back to grinding.
I agree. At times his motivation makes sense on some situations in my life.
Big fan of the guy
In one of my 2nd round interviews, I spent the most of the session talking about David Goggins with the VP. Got the offer.
They don’t know me son.
How did this come up?

Yes it seems like David Goggins is always showing up on my feed, he make many post and content
