Powerlifting may have been the most fun training years for me (and competing was a highlight), but man was it hard to balance the long workouts with work. Switched over to hybrid athlete style training this year and it's been so much easier to balance with work, despite technically being more hours per week (way more sessions but shorter per session). Was a big hit to the ego getting used to the decrease in strength though.

this is going to sting. when I get into IB next year the time to lift will decrease. Can’t even hit legs until 3 bulging discs heal. At least I hit 450 lbs on squat. the loss in strength will suck

All the MDs in IB/PE and PMs at HFs do road cycling not mtb. There's even a funny story about Ackman, Loeb, and a bunch of other PMs riding to Montauk and dropping Ackman along the way.

Is there a difference in prestige between road biking and mountain biking?

Road biking is far more prestigious. Does mtb have Tour de France? No.

Fair point. Although Red Bull is awesome, I don't think its prestige can compare to a century old bike race. Perhaps I will have to look into a road bike...

Cycling is the new golf

Golf is the public playground pick up basketball

Sorry for your prestige loss

Where does Australian Zipling fall

on this scale? I was thinking it falls somewhere between alpine sledding and sitting in an inner tube in Galveston Bay. (I’m sunburnt)

Sports should be broken out a bit. Big difference between playing sports and viewing sports. Maybe playing sports 2A, viewing sports 2B?

Watching women’s beach volleyball is 2A.

Where would MMA stand (Think BJJ, Muay Thai, Boxing)?

If your good at it 2A. being able to whoop someones ass is very prestigious

Grammar is also prestigious. You should try it sometime.

Golf is Tier 1a. Cliff diving too.

Rednecks cliff dive into old strip mines in the Midwest. Dangerous, yes? Don’t get the prestige. Casa Bonita in Denver (a bad, chintzy Mexican restaurant) had cliff divers…famously one of the best South Park episodes. It closed and was bought by Trey Parker and Matt Stone who are reopening it now with a James Beard winning chef but keeping the chintz.

lifting is not the same as going to the gym. People who say "I'm going to go lift" are looking to improve their health and physique (luxury status of gym doesn't matter). People who say "i'm going to the gym" are going for a social reasons (to be seen, to signal xyz, attention, etc.) their main motives are for attention (luxury status of gym does matter), not health / physique - that's just an adjacent effect.

gym prestige is hose shoe shaped.

Equinox at the top?

Prestigous

LA Fitness, Planet Fitness, Crunch Fitness, other chains?

Not prestigous

Old warehouse with rusted out barbells, weights that dont match, POW MIA , Dont Tread On Me, Semper Fi, etc. flags on the wall and 70s/80s rock blasting?

Back to prestigous

You're missing shooting in 2A and farming (having your own vineyard, produce, etc.) in 1A/2A

Lifting isn't top prestigous. It's full of knuckle dragging meat heads

You need to do a slice deeper and look at certain sports (skiing, rowing, lax, cycling) for prestige. Of course, being jacked is prestigous so you need lifting there as well

I mean I lift a fuck ton but also play sports all the time for cardio. but being jacked in any form is extremely prestigious

Is it just jacked that has prestige or would other lifter groups (Power lifters, body builders, etc.) also have prestige?

A power lifter that does so because they played football or rugby in college = prestige

A power lifter that does so just because they arent physically capable of watching what they eat = no prestige

the most prestigious hobby would be to be an emperor and have people entertain you in whatever way you choose

I'm bored, find 3 wrestlers to fight a tiger

that's boring now, have someone tell me jokes while walking on his hands

that's boring now, have someone do a live action version of family feud with all of the steve harvey mannerisms

just like this:

Ah, yes, allow me to enlighten you on the pastimes of the crème de la crème. The upper echelons of society aren't merely about ostentatious display of wealth, no, no, it's an intricate game of aesthetics, tastes, and subtleties.Take, for instance, the art of luxury yacht racing, specifically J-Class sailing. It's not enough to merely possess a yacht; one must be privy to the delicate dance of wind and waves, the ballet of canvas and rigging. It's an arena where captains and kings compete, and the prize is not merely victory, but the recognition of one's peers in this most elite circle.Thoroughbred horse racing and breeding, dear friend, is akin to sculpting living art. To breed a winner is to have the Midas touch, to race one is to command Pegasus himself. To the uninitiated, it might appear an extravagant gamble, but to the connoisseur, it is an exhibition of power, genetics, and exquisite judgement. Then we have the noble sport of polo. Ah, there's nothing quite like the thunder of hooves, the mastery of horse and rider, the deft strikes of the mallet. It is a symphony of skill, bravery, and, dare I say, a dash of ruthlessness.High-end art collecting, you see, is not simply about securing pretty pieces. It's a silent dialogue, a duel of discernment where one's wealth is merely the weapon, not the warrior. The same goes for wine and exotic cars, it's not the price tag that matters, it's the story, the rarity, the distinction. In these circles, my dear interlocutor, hobbies are not mere pastimes. They're an extension of one's persona, a statement of one's status, a testament to one's taste. So you see, it's not simply about having money, it's about having a flair for the magnificent and the audacity to let it shine.

Yeah, was surprised Polo wasn't on there until you mentioned it. Also, watch-collecting is a hobby many like (Mr. Wonderful).
