I pick my partner first and foremost based on their character. Traits like integrity, kindness, doing the right thing even when no one is there to witness means they won't screw your life up halfway during your marriage, meaning there'll be a much lower risk of them causing you pain and heartache in the long run.
I believe that by a certain age, character is moulded and set. Unless something drastic happens in their life that causes them shift their entire worldview and approach towards life, assholes remain assholes and kind people generally remind kind. So it's important to first and foremost to pick a person with good moral character as it will be difficult to change them after you get serious with them, even if you want to.
At the end of the day you are going to marry someone who will be there for you when times get tough, and times will definitely get tough and you two will be put to the test. Wouldn't you want to marry a good person in this case, as opposed to prioritising factors such as appearance, which would eventually fade with time, or wealth, that is not guaranteed to last?
