Faking Mom's Illness to go to Interview

Around Christmas time I had been contacted by a headhunter about a role at a PE firm in New York. A few days later I had an hour-long interview with the firm's HR guy. Yesterday, they contacted me asking me to come into the office on the 19th to meet their senior management team and that they'll also have me do a modeling test.

This was all great news to me, except that I currently work at a sweatshop in Miami pulling ridiculous hours. I had to think of a good excuse for me to get out of the office next Wednesday.

Conveniently (I know this is fucked up..) my mom had a bad kidney stone yesterday. My dad called me saying how my mom is in the hospital. After I hung up with my dad the people in my office asked if everything is okay and I overexaggerated how my mom is not doing well and is in the ER

My plan is that tomorrow or Saturday I will send a message to my team explaining how my dad called me again saying that my mom's situation is getting worse, and he bought me a flight to come back home to manage what is going on with her in the hospital and that I may need to be out of the office for a few days.

I also need to teach myself how to read a CIM and build an LBO model before Wednesday. I also need to book a flight from Miami to New York and find a hotel.

Am I an idiot or was this the right move? The potential comp at the PE firm would be double what I'm making now.
