Finance Bro Song has ruined my life

Ever since the "Looking for a man in finance song" came out, my life has never been the same. Every work drinks, every girl at each bar comes up to me and repeats the lyrics of the song back to me. They are indeed looking for a man in finance (I am interning at BB this summer), with a trust fun, that is 6"5 (I am 6"7, 220lbs) and has blue eyes (mine are a deep ocean blue). I can't even enjoy a simple catch up with my colleagues anymore without navigating crowds of women who just want me for my excel skills. I feel fetishized.

Any advice on coping with this? It is really impacting my work.

Based on previous WSO threads, here are some strategies to cope with the situation:

  1. Set Boundaries: Clearly communicate your discomfort to those around you. Let your colleagues and friends know that the constant attention is affecting your work and personal life.

  2. Focus on Professionalism: Maintain a professional demeanor at work and during work-related events. This can help shift the focus from your physical attributes to your professional skills and contributions.

  3. Seek Support: Talk to a trusted mentor or HR representative about your situation. They can provide guidance and support on how to handle the unwanted attention.

  4. Engage in Non-Work Activities: Find hobbies and activities outside of work where you can relax and be yourself without the pressure of being in the finance spotlight.

  5. Therapy and Counseling: Consider speaking with a therapist or counselor to help manage the stress and emotional impact of the situation. Mental health is important, and having a neutral party to talk to can be beneficial.

  6. Leverage Your Network: Use your professional network to find environments where you feel more comfortable and respected for your skills and personality rather than your appearance.

Remember, it's important to prioritize your well-being and mental health. If the situation becomes too overwhelming, don't hesitate to seek professional help.
