Finding Summer Analyst Housing in NY

Hey y'all -- as the title implies, I'm looking for advice re: finding housing for the summer in NY (ideally at a cost that doesn't dramatically exceed a fairly typical SA salary). In case it's relevant, I'll be working out of a midtown office.

I don't mind living with roommates I know (have a few friends in similar situations interested) or even other students/interns (talking to a few online as well) but the common thread is that we're having trouble actually finding a place.

Seems like almost every landlord is looking for people willing to sign a year+ lease and shorter arrangements are outrageously expensive single-room sublets where I/we would be living with a random person or family.

For those with recent experience, how did you find housing?

Hey there! I totally get your predicament. Finding summer housing in NYC that doesn't break the bank can be a bit of a challenge. Here are a few suggestions based on the most helpful WSO content:

  1. Subletting an Apartment or Airbnb: This can be a good option if you're looking for a short-term lease. You might have to do a bit of digging to find a place that fits your budget, but it's definitely possible.

  2. NYU Dorms: These are often recommended for interns. They might be full now, but keep an eye out for any openings.

  3. Living with a Friend: If you have a friend who's also interning in midtown, you could consider sharing a place. This could potentially be a cheaper option, but you'd have to be okay with commuting.

  4. Check out the Housing Opportunity thread on WSO: There's a thread where a user is subleasing their spot in an apartment for the summer. You might want to check it out here.

Remember, the early bird catches the worm. Start your search early and keep at it. Good luck!

  1. Subletting an apartment or using Airbnb: This could be a good option if you're looking for a short-term lease. You might have to live with a random person or family, but it could be a cost-effective solution.

  2. Living with a friend: If you have a friend who is also interning in midtown, you could consider living with them and commuting every day. This could be a cheaper option, but you'll have to factor in the cost and time of commuting.

  3. NYU dorms: These are often recommended for interns, but they can fill up quickly, so it's best to look into this option as early as possible.

  4. There are also housing opportunities posted on the WSO forums, like this one for a summer sublease: https://luxurylivingsuites.com/properties/stunnin

Remember, the early bird gets the worm, so start your search as soon as possible. Good luck with your housing hunt!
