For all the Elon Musk Haters
Generally interested in hearing the point of view and reasoning.
For those of you that don't like Elon Musk, don't like him buying Twitter, don't like him fighting for free speech, don't like people who stand up in his support, why? What's bothering you?
He is a man child lacking in empathy. These are not likable human characteristics.
People who say this are usually weak. Empathy is a good trait to have, but it doesn’t mean you have to be weak
Do you want a real answer or an answer to your loaded question? Lol
You'll never convince a hater, just leave it
It's naïve for anyone to just blanketly trust an elite like Musk. As an individual he's the single largest DoD contractor in the world. SolarCity, Tesla, and SpaceX are only successful because they have received mountains of tax benefits, subsidies, and special privileges from the US government (and in the cases of SolarCity & Tesla, relationships with the CCP). He's expressed support for many policy points directly in line with the WEF. Just because he's better than the previous owners of Twitter on some speech issues (he's very clearly not a free speech absolutist) doesn't make him a saint with your best interests at heart.
I don't hate him, but I certainly don't trust him.
^^^100%.
Elon only cares and fights for one thing. It's not free speech, its not the free market or anything of the like. I'll give you a hint, it starts with "E" and ends with "lon".
But Trump really cares about those coal miners and factory workers doesn’t he?
You and the other leftoid are the only ones bringing him up in a thread that's about Elon Musk. He's living in your head. Rent. Free. It'd be funny if it weren't so pathetic.
I think Elon Musk has bought into his own hype, which is always a bad look.
His buying Twitter has to rank as one of the worst business decisions in recent memory and the frantic attempts by him and his fanboys to plaster over that just make it seem even more pathetic. The fact that he vastly overpaid in a fit of pique should be an enormous black mark against his judgement as a businessman; if anything, it's in keeping with my view of him, which is as a great hype/PR guy who doesn't do a lot of actual managing or investing. That's a valuable skill - but not in line with the common view of Mr Musk, or of the view he seems to have of himself. And as I said, that kind of self-deception coupled with his massive ego is tailor made to turn people off.
He's not fighting for free speech. He's fighting for the appearance of fighting for free speech. As we've seen, he's removed plenty of commentary that reflects poorly on him. So if he's not fighting for actual free speech, he's fighting to empower bigotry and hate speech, pure and simple. Twitter was not obligated to respect anyone's speech in the first place anyway, so it's not a "free speech" issue. What Elon Musk is doing is giving a platform back to people that Twitter's previous management decreed to be in violation of their terms of service. By itself, that is neither noble nor ignoble, it's merely a decision of which constituency or user base to appeal to. His frantic denunciations of fleeing advertisers make it clear Mr Musk doesn't actually understand what "free speech" means in this context. The fact that he's choosing to empower some vile human beings is a direct reflection on his value system and what he thinks is worthy of support, not some noble ideal.
And as for people who stand up for him, I have no problem with them as long as they're realistic in their assessments. Aside from Mr Trump, I'd argue there is no person in this country who inspires more blind, uncritical loyalty than Mr Musk. He's not Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne or any other fictional billionaire genius. He's a Kardashian. A brilliant self-promoter. I think that Elon Musk in 2021 was at the height of his arc, in terms of reputation and wealth, and I firmly believe it's all downhill from here. If you think he's worth listening to because of his net worth, well... that's vastly inflated by Tesla's absurd stock price. If you think he's a genius because all of his business ideas are home runs, well... that wasn't true before and this Twitter nonsense certainly will show it to be a lie. I think he deserves credit for his success and his vision, but his reputation and the fanatic loyalty he inspires isn't warranted.
That was one of the most critical, but incisive views of Musk I've ever read. Only counter I'll throw out is the stunt of launching the Roadster into orbit with the Astronaut dummy and showing it live.
And just to toss more fuel on your fire, let's not forget he was involved with Amber Heard too. And lord knows how much she literally shit the bed in her life.
Don’t forget Kanye! People still think he’s a victim of cancel culture even though he continually advocates for the genocide (“Death Con 3”) of Jews
"Ye" is definitively mentally unstable. He's not stupid per se, but his emotional maturity is that of a five year old and he let's it show way too often. AKA the Tim Pool situation this week (granted I think Milo facilitated and accelerated the situation. I can't stand Milo at all due to his illogical and unnecessarily beligerent behaviors).
"As we've seen, he's removed plenty of commentary that reflects poorly on him."
I must have missed this. What stuff are you talking about?
Well it's not easy to link to things that are taken down, but there were a flood of parody accounts making fun of Mr Musk (among others) that were more or less immediately taken down, as well as firing a bunch of Twitter engineers who mocked or challenged him.
Which, again... Mr Musk has every right to enforce whatever rules he wants when it comes to a company he owns. There is even some value, arguably, in banning or de-platforming unlabeled parody accounts, though it's hard to imagine anyone believing that Elon Musk posted "I am a freedom of speech absolutist and I eat doody for breakfast every day" (which was actually from Sarah Silverman, shocker). You just cannot defend Mr Musk as a defender or promoter of free speech at the same time.
Which means all he really cares about is empowering and giving a megaphone to bigots and trolls, not "defending free speech"
The Elon Musk hype train in my opinion represents the worst parts of social media, celebrity worship, and startup culture merged together. It’s clearly clouded Elon’s judgment too, leading him to make possibly the biggest impulse purchase of all time and act like an idiot to get attention from his followers. Personally I grew sick of him after he used his social media to manipulate Bitcoin and Dogecoin prices.
I wanna know why you guys are constantly sucking this dude off tbh
I personally won’t be out here simping for these billionaire celebrity egomaniacs but that’s just me
Im glad he bought Twitter though. Twitter fucking blows and I hope he loses his money on it
It was interesting at first. Just became too tiresome over time
