Based on the most helpful WSO content, the NYC housing market moves incredibly fast, especially during the summer. For a late June/early July move-in, you should start seriously looking about 1 month before your move-in date. This is because most apartments in NYC are listed and rented quickly, often within hours or days of being posted.

Here are some tips for your search:

  1. Murray Hill is a great choice for young professionals, especially for Midtown offices. Expect rents for a 3-man apartment to range around $1.5k-$2.25k per person.
  2. Use platforms like StreetEasy and apply filters like "no fee" to save on broker fees.
  3. If possible, plan a short trip to NYC to tour apartments in person. Many people find and apply for apartments within 2 hours of searching during peak times.
  4. Have your documents (e.g., proof of income, credit score, ID) and funds (e.g., first month’s rent, security deposit) ready to act quickly.

Good luck with your search!
