going through stuff

I’m an intern going through a brutal breakup, and it’s messing with my head more than I’d like to admit. I can’t get her out of my mind no matter what I do. Somewhere along the way, I lost my self respect in that relationship, and that’s hitting just as hard as losing her.

On top of that, my work environment is relentless. It’s high pressure, nonstop, and I’m struggling to keep up while dealing with all of this. Moving on isn’t just difficult, it feels impossible right now.

I miss her, more than I should and more than I want to. And the worst part is that I don’t know what the right move is anymore. I don’t know what to do or what not to do. I just know I can’t keep feeling like this.

It’s clear you’re going through a tough time, and it’s completely valid to feel overwhelmed. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s what you can do to navigate this challenging period:

  1. Acknowledge Your Feelings: Breakups are incredibly tough, especially when paired with a high-pressure environment like yours. It’s okay to feel the way you do—don’t beat yourself up for it. Recognizing that you’re struggling is the first step toward healing.

  2. Seek Professional Help: Many WSO users have shared that counseling or therapy can be a game-changer. It provides a safe space to process your emotions and gain clarity. Even if your schedule is packed, carving out time for this can make a significant difference.

  3. Stay Busy, but with Purpose: While work can be a distraction, it’s important to engage in activities outside of work that bring you joy or peace. Whether it’s exercise, a hobby, or reconnecting with old friends, these can help you rebuild your sense of self.

  4. Rebuild Your Self-Respect: Reflect on what went wrong in the relationship, not to dwell on the past, but to understand and grow. Focus on what you need and deserve in the future. This process can help you regain confidence and self-worth.

  5. Lean on Your Support System: Even if you feel isolated, reaching out to friends, family, or trusted colleagues can help. A simple conversation or a weekly check-in with someone you trust can provide emotional relief.

  6. Take Small Steps: Healing doesn’t happen overnight. Focus on small, manageable goals—whether it’s completing a task at work, going for a walk, or journaling your thoughts. These small wins can help you regain control.

  7. Consider Your Work Environment: If the relentless nature of your job is exacerbating your struggles, it might be worth evaluating whether a change in role or team could improve your mental health. Some WSO users have found that lateral moves or shifts to roles with better work-life balance helped them recover.

Remember, you’re not alone in this. Many have faced similar struggles and come out stronger. Take it one day at a time, and don’t hesitate to seek help when you need it. You’ve got this.
