Goldman Sachs Veteran Integration Program
Anyone have any insight? Got invited to participate. The posts are a bit dated here. Seems to me like you do some info sessions, get a little resume help, mentorship from within the division of the bank you’re interested in, and a potential leg up on positions you’re interested in? I’m paraphrasing but that’s what I gleaned from the website. Any insight is appreciated.
Thanks.
I'd say that captures what the program is. I did it this past year. We had info sessions multiple times per week about different divisions in GS. We were also paired with a mentor, who made sure we had a refined elevator pitch and our resume was in good shape.
I think the most beneficial part was that it allowed you to meet people at the firm organically. I messaged a few of the presenters after their info-session and we met up (virtually) for a coffee chat. It is a pathway program, so it leads into a role at GS if you're good.
Overall, I’d recommend you do it. I am happy I did it
Interesting. My background is in power trading, some gas. Did you have the ability to really focus in on one specific job function/area or did they kind of just market you anywhere they thought you might fit?
As in, did they focus on just getting you a job anywhere within the bank, or did you have some say?
You definitely have some say. It seemed like the whole idea of the program is to provide a broad overview of the roles at GS at first and then to narrow it down. For example, we listed our preferences/interests towards the end of the program.
But, it’s whatever you make of the program. I think there were many people that didn’t convert the program into a FT role. I also should say though that in the past VIP was in-person. Because of the pandemic, it was virtual when I did it. So I’m not sure if it being in-person will change your experience.
I got invited to participate as well. The email was super vague but it seems that the entire program will be virtual as well.
Did you get paid for this? What I found online from past ones is that they did, but seeing how this is online mentorship, I'm not so sure.
When I first got invited, I remember it being vague as well. They should send out a calendar though eventually with all of the events.
You’re right about the virtual one not being paid. I know someone who did the in-person version before covid and it seemed much more like an internship then. That one may have been paid. Even though it isn’t paid, I thought it was worth it.
