Halo 3 is amazing

The level of detail in Halo 3 is astonishing. From flowing icy waterfalls to perfectly sculpted caves that really highlight realism and show the respect and pride of the developers. Halo infinite in comparison is horrible - it might have better game play mechanics but everything seems off - its too easy to snipe, the sniping sound is off, desync issues, average maps, lack of continued support, horrible audio soundtracks, etc. I guess that is what happens when your focus is on profits and selling stupid cosmetics rather than building a beautiful experience for your audience that will create lasting memories.

The era of CoD BO1/MW3 & Halo 3/Reach will never, ever be touched. Games way ahead of their time that we're perfect at virtually every aspect. The newer games just do not have it - you know what I mean.

*Ahem*

So you're younger, I get it. Won't hold it against you. Quake, Half-Life, the Counter-Strike MOD that then became CS:GO a decade later, Civ 2/4/5, X-Com: EW, Fallout 1-4, Fable, Gran Turismo 2 and on, DiRT series, Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal, bored yet or you want me to keep going?

The original HALO was interesting for sure. But they kept returning to the same well hoping it would refill everytime. And just trying to throw a new graphics engine at it.

I'd throw in Unreal Tournament in there too, some of them were great (3 probably being my personal favorite).

Admittedly - I think part of the allure of the Halo franchise, for the first few games and call it the first decade was the quality of the story around it. How it has not become a blockbuster (and don't get me started on the TV series) is beyond me - it's ready made for a three part trilogy, sci fi epic. There are certainly challenges - i.e. the main character isn't exactly charismatic - but you can work around that with the world building and other characters. From C.E. to Halo 3, you had one continuous arc. I also have read quite a few of the books, quick easy reads that I found fun and expanded on the story.

As the IP matured, it started going further and further adrift - more fantasy meets sci fi with so much Lore that when you play the games, half the time I have no idea what is going on unless you really get into the world of Halo. Didacts, composers, forerunners - it's a lot of ground to cover. 4 and 5 are a wash. Played them once, won't play them again probably. The formula got a bit stale and maybe I just got older - who knows.

And that's fine - Infinity was good, fun to run through, and the open world was interesting. The lack of diversity of terrain, climates, and frankly the overall map was disappointing but I recall them having a lot of development issues, so that probably constrained them. I didn't enjoy the 'boss' fights very much. Admittedly I don't really game anymore, and this was the first game since assassins creed odyssey that I really got into for a brief period - the HALO universe is like catnip sometimes.

Never thought I'd see a post on Halo 3. But while we are at it, in my humble opinion, it is the greatest game of all time.

Don't make me do it...

It's a good game, but having been around for donkey's years, I've played enough games to push back that it is not the GOAT game. Ironically, there is Goat Simulator which is hilarious to play or watch videos of if you need a pick me up.
