Have you ever caught a coworker talking shit about you?
Was on a call and coworker made a comment about me that wasn’t rude but could be taken the wrong way. 99% sure he didn’t realize I was on the call.
I’m sure this has come up / happened to others before.
Any coworker who mad mouths other coworkers in front of you certainly badmouths you when you’re not around.
Can’t control what others say about you, just maintain an impeccable reputation so people will write off the bad mouther as full of shyt.
Not coworker but this is surprisingly common in B school.
A few of my friends do this about other classmates (one of them did overhear the conversation at a bar / party and just pretended he didn't hear them) and I sometimes wonder if they do the same to me when I'm not around.
rareliquid made a video on this recently too, an ugly thing he hates about Wharton (and B school in general) is the gossip and shit-talking
It seems way more prevalent amongst certain peers recruiting for IB / consulting vs. others. Won't go into detail but I do think some of my classmates going that route aren't people I'd trust as advisors if I was a client / company.
Edit: His takes overall are spot on. Finally watched rareliquid's video. Would agree on his take of risk aversion for people recruiting IB/consulting because of the debt they're taken on. Although there are people who genuinely want to go into IB because they want to continue working in financial services. I'm taking on debt but not 6 figures and decided against recruiting for startups post MBA because of the debt I'm taking on and wanting to pay it off within 1.5-3 years of graduating.
