Hot 'take': Anyone else?

Anyone else scared that non-finance friends/ people will find out how basic finance is?

I was chilling with my engineering friend and I told him how I was updating some models for earnings season. He went 'Oh, XXX complicated statistical models?' And i was like, 'Nah, just Excel.' He went 'Oh. Excel is so OP'

Like they think investment bankers are all running complex computer programs and running statistical regressions tryna model derivatives of derivatives of derivatives using 'Continuous-Time Finance' and use complex math, when in reality ...

… it's very common knowledge finance jobs are mostly just basic math and not rocket science calculus or statistics

Why are you scared? Have you been lying to people just to flex?

Not a hot take, finance isn't that complicated. Doesn't mean it's simple either. I know plenty of engineers from HS and College who could've use some basic business lessons before taking a job at a start-up where the comp is mostly equity that's now worthless. I'm sure they'll end up fine in the long-run but now being ~4-5 years out of school they had little wealth creation in that period.

Damn those relationship management skills! Who'd ever think of having to talk to clients or upper management?! I'd've gotten away with it too if it wasn't for you damn kids!
