How Can Managing Directors Afford Families (NYC)?
Looking at recent threads, it seems like it is almost impossible to plan a family in NYC working as IB MD.
If you are a 50+ year MD at GS/MS making $5-10M, with insane volatility of earnings, how do you get comfortable with committing to kids/mortgage/family given the high cost of living? This seems like a lot, but when you have a family / kids in NY, it's actually not that much.
Do people just defer families or find partner with a steady job (doctor), while they swing for the fences?
Asking because it seems impossible to to build a family on that peasant salary of seven figures a year in HCOL city like NYC.
How do fellow MDs do it?
(this is an obvious troll post for all of you retards who wonder if two mil a year is enough to survive in NYC. spoiler alert: yes it is and you should get your priorities checked if that's actually an issue for you)
No MD is making 5 - 10 million. More like 800k - 2 mill
Edit: it’s impressive how people are so out of touch regarding how much MDs make. This ain’t pre-2008 guys, back then that type of money was attainable, now not so much.
You’re a clown. I’m not even in banking and just through networking personally know 3 MD’s who make around $4-$6M a year. 2 at BB banks, one at an EB
I know 2 or 3 VPs at BB making $1-3 M...
glad i read to the end because i was about to tell you to touch grass
Good one
Then why did you bother posting it in the first place?
I bet you think Biden is innocent
Of what? Seeing as I'm not a cretin and have some bare semblance of critical thinking ability, which is in extremely short supply on this forum, I'll have to ask you to be more specific.
So did you have a particular crime in mind, or are you just going to scurry off with your tail between your legs because someone called you out on parroting whatever OANN talking point you heard yesterday?
I think he’s making fun of the How Do HF Analysts Afford NYC and Have a Family thread.
He has no sense of humor.
Well if you are Smoke Frog all you need is a small subsidy of $1-2mm per year from your parents and it makes Manhattan’s high cost of living much more manageable on a meager $1mm salary
He has some good insight and comments every now and then but he’s so out of touch with the average person
i wish i had $2M+ like you
Also not verified from what I remember so for all we know, he's just a troll / prospect. But nonetheless, if he's not trolling - guy needs to touch grass.
He’s toughing it hard out here in these streets😪. How can someone even tip their landlord in today’s NYC economy?
After tipping my MD, I barely have enough leftover for my doormen, let alone my landlord.
lowkey the best subreddit around
I think 5-10m is ok. But 3m and it's an upper middle class life just in nyc
You had me going ngl, quality shitpost sir
MDs be out here working for tips!!!!
