How do most students/interns pay for housing over the summer? NYC
I just realized housing payment for NYU housing is due really soon and it's around a 6.5k payment. I'm sure a lot of people with very well-off parents/nepo hires can pay this easily. Some companies also offer insane signing for internships (~5,000). How do middle-class students pay for this? More loans?
I was gonna put this on the credit card but they only accept wire. Told my parents I would pay for this since they already pay 12k a semester for my housing in another HCOL city. Just did not realize you would have to pay all at once before recently and it hit me it was due just now since I've been swamped with finals.
Any advice would be helpful. I am even thinking I might have to cancel this and find some super cheap option but even those are hard to find now. NYU is super convenient and usually top recommendation. For now will try to ask family for some cash and pay back but it is a good chunk of change.
Amex lol
I wish I could. That was my plan until I realized they only take checks or bank transfers. Really sucks because a couple of my other friends paid with credit card. So they can wait for their first pay check AND get points/miles.
My roommate is subleasing his room in our house for $925 a month but it is in the Bronx (Fordham area) PM for more info if you are interested. 45 minutes from midtown, 1hr to Fidi

They have a payment plan to pay half now and the other half June 13th in case you weren’t aware
Can you get a personal loan? You can pay it off over the summer / with your signing bonus.. not ideal but cash flow is what it is. Start saving as FT apartment rental will also be a massive upfront payment.
Payment plan is a good idea as well as mentioned above.
As for what most people do... a lot have parents pay upfront and they just pay them "rent" installments with each paycheck. So not really "nepo" just helping with an advance that gets paid back in full. It sounds like your family is already fully extended but if your parents are open to a zero-sum loan for a few weeks that's obviously cheapest
What’s the data on FT apartment renting?
First's month's rent + security deposit + majority of apartments in NYC have a 15% or ~two months rent broker's fee (even if you don't use a broker)
Can avoid the broker fee in no-fee buildings (usually the very large corporate-owned rental buildings) but it will severely limit you on location and choice. Either way prepare for at least a $5k upfront check, maybe $10k if need to pay a broker fee. Signing bonus doesn't always hit in time
