How do you feel about China taking over?

Recently saw a infographic, how China is leading all countries in the development of emerging technologies like quantum computing etc. In 2017, the US was leading in quantum computing now it’s China. The US second to China in all emerging technologies and 3rd in some behind South Korea.

If they suddenly adopt the values of free speech and individual liberty, I wouldn't mind. If they also suddenly started speaking English, I'd probably move there.

It will take decades for China to catch up in soft power. How often do you see a movie promoting Chinese values, while Hollywood has conquered the world.

The questions is, do you think future Americans, your children, can still live a better life? Do you think America can still prosper if it's not a superpower anymore? Look at UK, they are still doing fine.

Pretty f-ing often. Don't forget most of these major motion pictures these days are funded by the Chinese. In Doctor Strange, the Ancient One played by Tilda Swinton is Celtic whereas in the comics the character is Tibetan. This change was made purely due to China's unwillingness to recognize Tibet as an independent nation. If a movie, these days, can't be sold in China, it doesn't get made. Don't forgot what happened with the NBA and Hong Kong. As much as conservatives like to point it out, China straight up made the NBA its bitch, and the NBA kowtowed to their overlords.

First of all, Tibet is part of China, and China/its people will be actually happy if the movie is indeed accurately promoting Tibetan culture. There are people trying to separate Tibet, but a Tibetan character in a movie will do nothing to enhance it. Remember the movie 2012, the Ark was made in Tibet and no one had an issue with it.

Secondly, you are confusing Chinese money with Chinese value. Of course NBA and Hollywood want that CNY, but that doesn't mean they are promoting Chinese values. Chinese people don't need Hollywood to tell them what Chinese values and cultures are. They just want good movies. Let me ask you this, what have you learned about Chinese values and Chinese cultures from any of these movies?

I don’t think it really matters. America will always have intangibles going for us. Even if we’re “number two”, New York is still a global financial center, LA is still the center of media and entertainment, and SF is still a tech hub.

China will continue to shoot itself in the foot with the strange combination of the worst aspects of both communism and capitalism.
