Recently, someone in my office has started bring their dog to work (I don't know how this is allowed) and its always running around and people start playing with it. I totally can't focus with this dog running by my cubicle every 5 minutes and barking at people.

To answer your question; coffee or tea usually works.
I was looking at some of the past discussions about this topic and prevalent answer involved adderall or caffeine (which is still technically a drug). I wanted to see if others in the community were adopting new tactics beyond a "quick fix".
And by punishment/ reward, some people will grant themselves a treat after completing X, helping retrain concentration.
If you are an 8 or higher, I will gladly have sexual relations resulting in a 69% increase in concentration and productivity, every time.

I have just finished my freshman year and got an internship at one of the local investment banks in my country. The problem I am encountering is that I tend to be over-attentive to details when I have more than enough time. I check everything that I've done multiple times, sometimes find myself starring at some chart or whatever it is for prolonged periods of time, The funny thing is that when the time is really limited, I get everything done in a perfect way with no double-checking. I am concerned about it b/c I feel like I am wasting my time when the situation is not really demanding.
Has anyone ever had similar experiences? What would be your advise?

If you are checking your work a lot when you have the time to do so, that's a good thing. You'll learn more and it makes mistakes less likely when you don't have the luxury of time.
You are checking your work, but when you do not have time to do so, you still produce error-free work. What is the problem? You seem like a rockstar analyst.

I graduated in 2009 and have been working in consulting over the last year. I am now trying to transition into the banking or hedge fund industry and started looking for jobs three weeks ago. I actually have had some pretty good results, but haven't found what I've been looking for... unfortunately the process is VERY slow as it takes a week or two to hear back between rounds. I also contacted headhunters and they've set me up with some legit interviews in the coming weeks (solid funds and elite boutiques).
Unfortunately since things really started ramping up this past week I am super distracted from work. All I can do is think about working at potential employers and future interviews...etc. Also I get my email linked to my blackberry so I can't help but look every 4 or 5 minutes for a flashing red light =(
Has anyone gone through this? Any tips? Since the process is slow I might not be done with the process for another month, but it's just been awful at work since I can't get anything done. Any tips?

I know exactly what you're going through, having recently gone through it myself. The only advice I can offer is for you to focus on your current job, because at the end of the day, you still need that paycheck.
I know it's tough when you have other jobs / interviews lined up, especially if you're excited about them, but if you end up getting a new job, you want to leave your current job on a high note, i.e. having people remember you for being hardworking, etc. You never know when you might need a good recommendation (perhaps for b-school or future jobs).
Just do your best, and at the end of the day, when a new job comes your way, THEN you can forget about your current job.
