How to deal with being yelled at

Just got yelled at for something that's entirely my fault. no blame at all on the guy yelling at me i was just being an idiot

but holy shit every time someone says something negative to me i feel like I overreact. i feel like ending it, like everyone hates me, like im gonna be a failure etc.

im usually a pretty happy upbeat person but man whenever other people signal they don't like me i become incredibly depressed

It's normal to feel that way, never pleasant getting reamed out. It takes a while for the skin to thicken lol.

You've already hit step 1, which is acknowledging your mistake. Step 2 is to fix it and step 3 is to not make that same one again.

You'll make many mistakes in your career (we all do), the true test is how you bounce back. You either dwell and let it beat you down or you treat it as a learning experience. Remember that you're not measured on a single mistake, but the entirety of your performance and your relationship with the team.

You hear athletes talk about it all the time, can't get too high on the ups and can't get too down on the lows, you got to build that internal fortitude, know that none of it's personal (for the most part), acknowledge your mistake and get better.

It sucks getting yelled at and won't feel good, but you've just got to center yourself after those events so that you don't go into a tailspin where you make further mistakes. Take praise the same way, sure it feels good to get the praise but can't let it go to your head and get so overconfident that your discipline breaks down.
