IB and keeping a pet.
Any Investment Bankers keep pets at home? what sort of pets would be “optimized” for such an experience and how do you find time for maintenance and care?

I have edited this post because people want to talk about pets. Nothing wrong with pets. They're awesome!
couldn’t care less about relationships but I’ve wanted a puppy since I was five just let me have this pls
I keep a midget in a gimp suit locked up at my place
did you get yours on the Libyan or Mongolian market? I’m looking to get one, and based on the consensus on this site it seems like Libyans are cheaper but Mongolians are higher quality
Libya for sure. I keep mine surrounded by walls and if they were Mongolian they would easily get past a great wall
please let me out, thanks
Do you know how much love and affection any pet will need? Apart from a permanent WFH setup you would deprive it of love and attention that it needs and leave it with significant trust issues.
will a goldfish get depression if I have long work hours?
read that as "will a goldfish depreciate?". Time to get off WSO.
doggy day care
Lizards make good pets
only for the Lazard lizard-brained MDs
Why do you think your associate keeps you all those hours? You are the pet.
:’)
Aren’t you the guy who got an offer from Evercore? Hopefully, if I do make it, I’ll be able to work with people like you.
holy shit hahaha
This is honestly the one thing that makes me sad about IB hours. I can't wait to have a family just so I can raise 3 large dogs (think Husky/Golden).
I've been thinking about getting a puppy (think Golden/Husky/Shephard) ever since I was little (think 4/5/6 years old). My family member (think aunt/uncle/cousin) had a pet (think goldfish/dog/cat), and every time I went to their place (think 1BR/2BR/studio apartment) and played with it (think fetch, laser pointers, wrestling) I've wanted one.
Hahahhahaha love it
in IB pet keeps you...
In terms of puppies, I am in the same boat. I currently got a puppy over quarantine and plan on hiring a walker to come play/walk/feed him twice a day. I would get to see him before I go into the office and when I get home, in addition to having some free time over the weekends to play or bring him to the park. I also recommend if you live close to the office, running home during a lunch break or anytime you have to get out of the office.
Get a horse, iykyk
So nobody on WSO has a monkey?!
yes but he goes to kindergarten most of the day
Still keeping mine at home for a bit longer.. causing lots of monkey business every day! She even goes under the nickname beautiful little monkey.
snapping turtles are evolved so they qualify as perfect companions of a wall street banker who went to a target or semi-target
As a junior in IB, you ARE the pet... your MDs will tell you to sit and stay or roll over and you'll do it, but you only get a treat once at the end of the year
Only works well the first time in a thread
on new issue day!
I think travel schedules may make it pretty hard to care for a pet unless you have a sig-o that isn't traveling much.
I will definitely advise against getting a dog while working banking hours, if that is not obvious. I had one before I started my analyst stint and I was lucky enough that I could get my parents to take care of it. Started out being a temporary setup, which by now has become more or less permanent. Also, if you get a dog, you will want to spend extra time with it the first 1-2 years to bond with it and train it properly. Perhaps if you are further up in the hierarchy you can get away with it.
How about getting a plant for the office to start with? Spiky or poisonous for extra points.
Yes I keep 2 cats :D
Cats. They'll somehow figure out a way to hunt some mice and small birds to keep themselves fed.
Get a cat. She couldn’t care less so it will work out.
