If you could do anything to make money for a summer, what would you do?
I start a Masters program in the Fall and have two months to make some cash. I'm willing to do anything, anywhere, with preference toward higher paying jobs (or decent paying jobs with no expenses) and something that comes with an adventure (oil rigging, work on a ranch in Wyoming, deep sea fishing, etc.).
I have no experience other the fact that I can work hard in the sun all day and lift heavy stuff. NO limited by geography here. No idea where to start. Any ideas?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some ideas for making money over the summer before starting your Master's program:
Oil Rigging: This can be a high-paying job, especially if you're willing to work in remote locations. It involves long hours and physically demanding work, but it can be quite lucrative.
Ranch Work: Working on a ranch in places like Wyoming can offer both adventure and a decent paycheck. Ranch jobs often include room and board, which can help you save money.
Deep Sea Fishing: This is another adventurous option that can pay well, especially if you join a commercial fishing crew. The work is tough and the hours are long, but the experience can be rewarding.
Construction Work: If you can handle physical labor, construction jobs are often available and can pay well. These jobs are available in many locations, so you might find something that fits your geographic preference.
Seasonal Farm Work: Many farms need extra hands during the summer for planting, harvesting, and other tasks. This can be a good way to make money while working outdoors.
Tourism and Hospitality Jobs: In tourist-heavy areas, there are often seasonal jobs available in hotels, restaurants, and other hospitality businesses. These jobs can sometimes include tips, which can boost your earnings.
Adventure Guide: If you enjoy outdoor activities, consider becoming an adventure guide for activities like rafting, hiking, or zip-lining. These jobs can be fun and pay decently, especially in popular tourist destinations.
Remember to consider the physical demands and potential risks associated with these jobs. Good luck with your summer job search and your upcoming Master's program!
