Improving Public Speaking / Communication (Should I join Toastmasters)

So I have a confession... I'm shit at communicating in a professional setting, and I don't know how to improve. I struggle to present clearly. I struggle to make small talk (and bridge personal and professional), and stuff like that. I am great with my peers/friends and more than great with girls. It's just the professional setting that fucks me up. It's definitely a confidence thing where I'm intimidated by people way above me on the professional hierarchy. But anyways, my struggles include communication in networking, interviewing, and even on the job (or internship). How can I improve at this. This sounds really cringe but should I join Toastmasters? I've only heard positive things about it. I think a lot of my problems have to do with the fact that I really haven't had much professional experience and it seems like a great way to gain some.

I used to struggle with this as well. I considered toastmasters but never ended up joining, but I've heard good things. What worked for me was practice. Whenever there was an oppotunity to present or lead a discussion in my office, I would volunteer. I would ask my boss if I could take a stab at this section, or if I could lead off the call. Things like that really helped me get comfortable.

I don't think there is a silver bullet, it just comes with practice and putting in the reps. If your current job does not have those opportunities, I would suggest joining a program like toastmasters.
