Associate 3 in Consulting

Can confirm - I recall one killer, star analyst who wasn't able to rise through the ranks all and only because he used to partake in the game of balls and holes.

Personally don't like golf. But the value of getting a CEO/director/sponsor or anyone important to spend a few hours one on one in a very relaxed environment away from the buzz of an office or a conference room and other distractions is immense. You talk, brainstorm, get to know each other better and build trust. 

It's like a lot of other things in life, you don't have to be top tier at it but you have to play the game.

Yeah - pretty sure every bank has some sort of budget or golf event for each coverage team or product group 


Certainly a big thing in houston / energy at the senior level. Most banks reimburse country club memberships from what I’ve seen - typically the monthly dues. 

 

Several articles that show legit more than 80% of business deals are done ON a golf course, probably answers your question
