.Is This Considered Weird?
Hey WSO, first year uni student hoping for some advice on this. Basically, I have an internship at a decently known asset manager but it's for 2020 - not this summer. When visiting the office, one of the SVPs was really cool and we talked for like 15 minutes while the CEO was taking a quick call in between a meeting with me. We talked about a lot of interesting things and he said to reach out if I ever need anything. I was thinking of following up on that and asking if he has any advice on how I can best prepare for the internship since I'll have a whole free summer to do so. Do current employees not like it when someone as low as an incoming intern reach out for things like this? He's a busy guy, but I basically would just ask him what skills I should polish up on and or which books I should read to make sure I am prepared (we talked a lot about books we liked during our meeting and already exchanged suggestions). Was hoping for some advice from you guys on whether or not this is considered weird since it's a whole year from my internship. Thanks!
Maybe a better route is to ask for an informational interview where you can cover those topics but also other ones like his career path, etc.
We sort of had that already. I'll be interning there next year so an informational interview wouldn't really make sense since I already have the internship. I was just going to ask if there is anything that I should focus on this summer to be best prepared for next summer. Is that bad?
Dunno, I would ask him for internship this summer and then on th next one.
It's already set up for 2020.

Well, I think just send him a quick email saying you're excited about the opportunity coming up and if they need any extra manpower before your start date that you'll be happy to help (only send this part if you mean it).
Ask him what industry journals or websites he recommends for staying UP TO DATE with the industry.
