What is everyone's opinion on Kyrie Irving being traded to the Celtics for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, and 2018 Nets Pick?
Pretty big move in the Eastern Conference, but it doesn't change that these two teams are still the top two teams in the East. I think this could be a beneficial change for both teams, I am just a little worried about Thomas' defense for the Cavaliers.

I think Cle got the better end of this trade, I also lost some respect for Kyrie for doin Lebron like that
Lol this is trade rape: Isaiah Thomas - all NBA PG, Ante Zizic - 20 and a former 1st rder, Jae Crowder -a very good 3 and D role player, and basically a top 5 pick (if they get Bagley III or Michael Porter those are potential all NBA players) for Kyrie Irving, an all star but a ball hog who doesn't play D and doesn't know how to run an offense despite being a "pg". Kudos to the Cavs for this heist.
And Isaiah Thomas is famous for his defense? Two extremely overrated point guards switched places, I can easily name 6 better PGs in the league.
They both don't play defense but IT is just as good a scorer and can actually play PG..... plus Cle added a top 5 pick, a great role player, and Ante Zizic.... so I really don't see what your point is here. 6 better PGs than Isaiah Thomas? Maybe, I'd be curious to see your names though.
The guy is like 5'9" at best. Of course his defense will be shit.
History repeats itself -- the Cavs didn't make the playoffs until LeBron came back and they traded for Love. Kyrie just isn't a leader (or a Big Baller TM). The Cavs still have the same guy who took Mo Williams to the Finals.
Recently read somewhere that someone apparently said that it's LeBron's last year in Cleveland as he doesn't get along with the owners anymore.
For the upcoming season I think both teams either didnt improve or got slightly worse. IT has a similar game to Irving, so not sure whether hell compliment LBJ nicely. Jae Crowder is a nice addition as it will push JR Smith to the bench, WHERE HE BELONGS. Boston gave up some depth and future upside, for a pg that might be slightly better than IT. Anyway no one comes close to GSW even after the trade
Cavs added a player with a "similar game" to Irving, but much better ball distribution. Jae Crowder, a 3 & D player, and Anton Zizic but you think they didn't improve? That doesn't make much sense.
You can't look at the trade in a vacuum.
IT is pushing 30 and was up for a max deal. From Boston's perspective that probably wouldn't have made sense, especially with the addition of Hayward, and that their team is good now AND young. This all kind of created incentive for moving IT anyways.
With Kyrie they get a very similar player (a bit better) who is a lot younger, and they'll feel better about his contract when they do have to re sign him. Also just in general moving more money/potential money off the books for when Tatum and Brown need to be re signed.
Considering Lebron seems likely to change teams, and possibly moving to the west with the Lakers, the Celtics are setting themselves up to run the eastern conference for next 4/5 years after this coming season. Trade also makes sense for the Cavs because they probably wouldn't have gotten more for Kyire who didn't want to be there anyways, and they get the best possible pick which is really what they should've been after.
I think it's a win win but you're right that it won't move the needle compared to GSW.
I think Boston could be a scary team in the somewhat near future though.

Lol I'm sorry if my "phraseology" isn't up to your standard.
Guys above me were talking about how Boston got the bad end of the deal. I was pointing out how their motivation included things other than just Kyrie versus Isaiah and co. as basketball talent.
There were most likely other factors at play other than just the quality of the players. If outside factors influenced the trade, then you aren't looking at the trade in a vacuum.
The craziest thing about this deal is that it's so counter to what I would've expected Boston to do. They were already potentially better than Cavs. So it seems like this is a push to compete in the finals. What they actually seemed to accomplish more than anything, though, is having to deal a max or no max contract. Clearly, the Celts didn't think IT was a super max player. And I agree.

At the end of the day, the strategy for anyone in the East is to wait out Lebron at his peak, and this definitely gives the C's a longer runway for that
