Part of what made that episode great was that at times it was also uplifting, funny, and almost hopeful - even amidst the world ending, two people ultimately found each other and enjoyed a decade or two together. The acting was great - Nick Offerman doesn't disappoint - and was totally bought in throughout. That said, a Shakespearean ending wasn't too surprising.
I really enjoyed the season overall, it reminded me of the best seasons of the walking dead - where the apocalypse was the backdrop for really compelling character development, relationship building, and how choices come to ultimately define you for better or worse.
