There is not much in Ann Arbor in terms of IB/M&A. If you have access to a car and your schedule allows, there are many IB and PE firms in Southfield and Birmingham about 45 minutes from AA. Amherst Partners is a Birmingham based investment bank that has an office in Ann Arbor so check them out.

However, Ann Arbor has many investment management firms such as Telemus Capital and also many small VC firms: http://www.arboretumvc.com/ http://www.renvcf.com/ http://www.rpmvc.com/ http://www.plymouthvc.com/ www.arborpartners.com/ http://www.enduranceventures.com/index.html

I couldn't ever knowingly condone staying in Michigan if you want to work in finance

BTbankerBeringea and Quarton Partners are the only IBs in Detroit.
Don't forget Amherst Partners, Donnelly Penman, and Finnea Group. Stout Risius Ross has a Valuation and Financial Opinions office out of Southfield as well.

But you're right, finance in Michigan tends to be a Grand Rapids thing. There are a ton of investment banking firms given the size of GR.
