Looking for NYC Roommate

Hi All,

I've seen a few roommate threads on WSO in the past so thought I'd try to make a post here too. Long story short, I work as a senior analyst at a BB in downtown Manhattan, but moved back home with parents and let my lease expire back in June. Now that we are looking to return to the office, I'm trying to lock something down in the months of October or November (not sure which one but happy to discuss). Since rent prices are at all time lows, I think it's the perfect time to capitalize on a true 2-bedroom (no flexed rooms) and sign a lease in the next month or two. I've listed more details below, but please feel free to PM me to chat!
City: NYC
Preferred Neighborhood: Tribeca, Battery Park City, Financial District
Start Date: October / November
Position: FT IB Analyst at BB
Total Roommates: 1 or maybe 2 if we find a good 3 bedroom
Gender: Male
Roommate Gender: No preference
Budget: Up to 2,000 (lower is better)
Contact: PM

Not judging you or trying to be an ass. But why is it that some people, like yourself, rather pay $2,000 to share an apartment with other people- often times strangers. When instead, you could go to Brooklyn or Queens and get your own comfortable 1 bedroom apartment for the same price you'd be paying to share an apartment.

All about location. Commute, nightlife (doesn't apply now), other. It is heavily recommended to live as close as possible to the office.

Not OP but in a similar position. I spend so much time in the office that I don't need my own apartment. I'd much rather be within walking distance to the office than have to take a subway 30 minutes both ways. So I'm willing to have roommates in exchange for no commute

$2k a month doesn't get you much in Manhattan (I know you said queens or brooklyn but even there, in the desirable areas, there isn't much).

Although I will add, right now you can find stuff at that price point in Manhattan, and not just crappy stuff, but pretty decent places (when you factor in the 1-2 months free). But that is due to the pandemic.

Normally people want to be close to work, nightlife, restaurants, friends, etc and that means paying more for the location. For $2k you are looking at 30-45 min commutes (maybe longer) and similar for going out. I realize right now with the pandemic there are many other considerations, but normally people will have roommates and get a nicer place closer to work and nightlife.

Dude,

If that's the budget just consider Jersey. You get an extra 3.5% by not paying NYC tax, It's under 20 minutes for anywhere on the PATH to lower Manhattan. You can skip roommates too. Whatever you're interested in, you can likely pull tail back to there too.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

I think you just need to up your game.  I've taken a solid 9 from LI home to Jersey from Billyburg. And I was in Harrison, not even JC.  If you're on the west side it can be closer than a large part of the city.

Who said that I was in IB? That's insulting.  Also, who said they were chicks?

Interested to hear like if you get a 3 bed room with two other roommates. Do you just smash girls in your bedroom and it's not weird? Like the other roommates it's natural for them?

Dude, did you ever go to college? We had to lecture the future Catholic priest who we called "Mr. Nine Commandments" about leaving freshman girls in the apartment senior year when he went to class.  And yes, there were four of us in a 2br.
