Looking for Roommate in NYC

Hey all, I’m an incoming first year analyst starting in New York City in July 2026 looking for a roommate to apartment hunt with.

Open to areas such as West Village, FiDi, or SoHo. Hoping to find a 2bd or 3bd for a July 1st or 15th move-in and a per person budget of $2,500-$3,000.

Please feel free to reach out if interested!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips and insights for finding a roommate and apartment in NYC as an incoming analyst:

  1. Preferred Neighborhoods: Your choices of West Village, FiDi, and SoHo are excellent for young professionals. These areas offer a mix of convenience, vibrant social scenes, and proximity to work hubs.

  2. Budget: With a budget of $2,500-$3,000 per person, you should be able to find decent 2-bedroom or 3-bedroom apartments in these neighborhoods. Keep in mind that broker fees (often 15% of annual rent), security deposits, and first/last month’s rent can add up, so plan for upfront costs.

  3. Timing: Apartments in NYC typically become available 4-6 weeks before the move-in date. For a July 1st or 15th move-in, you should start actively searching in May or early June. Be ready to act quickly once you find a suitable place, as apartments can get taken within hours.

  4. Roommate Search: Platforms like WSO threads, Facebook groups, and apps like Roomi or SpareRoom can help you connect with potential roommates. Be clear about your preferences and expectations to ensure compatibility.

  5. Lease Details: If you’re splitting the lease, ensure all roommates are on the lease agreement. This protects everyone legally and ensures shared responsibility for rent and damages.

  6. No-Fee Options: To save on broker fees, consider looking at larger complexes or buildings that lease directly, such as Stuyvesant Town or other no-fee listings.

Feel free to post your details on WSO roommate threads or similar forums to connect with others in a similar situation!
