MM PE x AI Experimentation

Happy Easter.

Finishing up a semester in a part-time role (investment team adjacent) within a MM PE firm, and thought I could offer some insight. I’ll keep it quick.

What I’ve accomplished in 4 months using standardized skills and cowork (Claude introduced day before my onboarding)…

1. Automated pipeline - leverages connectors + custom MCP servers to create an intermediary between tracking software, email, and file systems… “pull this email, create a deal in X software from its content.” - data entry time down from 20min to ~3min
2. Fully automated cim review + summary with an extensive emphasis on OBJECTIVITY; we send this over to the investment team for initial deal scans… “take the uploaded cim, scan to create a KPI overview in this standardized format + note any immediate flags relevant to our firms investment criteria” - cuts cim filtering down from ~30min to ~5min
3. Automated standardized weekly material updates by reading an excel or csv file. You still manually update hardcoded numbers in excel sheet, but AI familiarizes itself with pwp material formatting and data entry locations, it updates material when called upon. - cuts time down from ~25min to ~10min
4. Currently working through custom local MCP servers; however, security is a huge challenge here so tread lightly.

This by all means is not necessarily groundbreaking, especially for those of you familiar with software/code; however the ease of setup is, which is why I felt posting could be interesting. Furthermore, I assume there is some stubbornness within the finance community when it comes to uprooting legacy workflows, but this stuff is coming regardless. It cuts time massively and makes very few mistakes so long as proper parameters are set. Happy to elaborate or answer questions.

Best.

Are you using any programs or code you created yourself, or just things that are out-of-the-box?  (Ex: Skills)

Have you received any backlash from tech teams on this?  I feel like a lot of the "Claude" advantages are just ways for non-technical people to get around the tech bureaucracy.  (Under the hood, a lot of the stuff that Claude does is just vibe coding without relying on code reviews/production)

Did you develop software from scratch (ex: coded something in python that utilizes LLMs) to automate finance workflows, or did you exclusively use existing software (ex: Claude for excel, Claude, Claude code, etc.)

Just feed it into your slop machine. Hopefully it goes you the right answer, given that it struggles to spell basic words and routinely makes up sources.

...but is it REPE?
