Yes.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.
 

As for the hour commute, I don't drive so cant really estimate how long their commutes would take but I cant imagine it would be under 30min given it takes almost that long just to Uber from Midtown to Fidi depending on traffic lol.

Yes it’s incredibly common especially if they have children. In fact, more common than living in NYC. Many also live in places like Riverdale, Brooklyn, or Queens (which are all still technically NYC with NYC taxes). Outside of that Nassau county, Westchester county, Fairfield county, parts of NJ are all fairly common areas of residence.
