My IBD buddy just got engaged at 23. POLL: How many of YOU wouldve given up models and the partying life for this girl?

My buddy I went to school with who worked at a BB (although he just got laid off but that's besides the point), got engaged the other night to his girlfriend of 3 years.

Now, he's a pretty good lookin dude, extremely smart and ambitious. Back in college I knew for a fact that most of my female friends had a crush on him at one point in time so if he hadn't gotten engaged, he would've been getting all kinds of tail for the next decade.

NOW, movin onto her: I've been on double dates with them all throughout college so I know what she's like: Extremely nice, smart, sweet and caring. AND extremely attractive. Not your typical type-A ambitious bitchy girl/finance type. At Duke, she was a 10/10. Outside of Duke she was an 8/10. She's a year older than him so she graduated law school this May at a top 5 law school and landed a pretty sweet 6 figure gig in NYC. Very impressive.

NOW feller monkeys, would YOU have gotten engaged to that girl? Or would you instead have chosen to bang models every weekend until you're 30 and settle down then?

Thoughts?

Look, these threads are getting fucking ridiculous. None of us can judge that accurately:

  • we are not him, we do not know how he feels or what he likes or what makes him happy
  • we have no idea regarding the credibility of your standards ... the whole 10/10 in one place and 8/10 another place is bullshit because you're using a relative scale; only deal in absolutes
  • the family circumstances are unknown
  • there are yet more hypotheticals I don't have the energy to go into

Long story short, every single one of these situations is going to vary tremendously based on the two people involved -- and none of us on this forum can do a single thing to change that. Ignoring all that, I'm on his side -- marry.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.

hey man, chill. i meant for this thread to be slightly unserious / lighthearted. just curious as to what the rest of you would do given the age and all. been trying to figure out what to do myself as well.

blah.

This myth that IB analysts slam models every weekend is cute, but so not the case. Congrats to your buddy, wish him the best.

Thats great. I wish fewer in the finance community were so against the idea of committing to other people.

You said the girl is extremely nice, smart, sweet and caring. AND extremely attractive. And she just graduated from a top 5 law school?

This is very rare to find and I would marry her.

OP is so fucking full of shit.

We need to start creating a picture requirement for any thread that talks about woman.. 10/10 at Duke but 8/10 everywhere else. What kind of people do you take us for?

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.
