NBA Finals - Best of who never won?

NBA Finals upon us? Who you got?

Weird thing about this finals is that both star players from each team have been criticised for failing to win so someone corrects this.

Got me thinking, whose the best to never have won?

Barkley, Malone, Stockton, Nash, 'Nique?

Who you got?

EDIT: For JeffSkilling who doesnt understand the implication I made in my opening paragraph.

Let me have another go:

Weird thing about these finals is that both star players from each team, THIS BEING LEBRON JAMES FROM MIAMI AND DIRK NOWITZKI FROM DALLAS, have been criticised for failing to win so someone of the two will correct this,

I didnt mention Dirk or LeBron among the few players I mentioned because obviously one will rectify that thus it was redundant putting them into that list when I referred to them before.

Wow, that was incredibly difficult.

JeffSkilling:
Dirk is currently in that group, moves to the top of it if he wins it this year.

Which he will.

Recognised Dirk in my first paragraph.

I dont really understand what you mean. Dirk is in that group, yes but if he wins he's out of that group. How does he get to the top of a group he isnt in?

Where did you mention Dirk? I'm saying that Dirk isn't going to get into the top 10 with one ring but he moves ahead of that group if he does get it.

Star players from both teams.

Miami - LeBron

Dallas - I wasnt talking about Jason Kidd now was I?

I wasnt talking about the overall standings of players in some order otherwise yes, Dirk will move ahead of the rest. The post is about players who havent won yet and who was the best of them.

And when you say top 10? You mean of all time? Because if so, you need to get a reality check. I love Dirk but NO WAY IN HELL is he top 10 overall. Top 30? Yes. Right now. With a ring, he stays roughly where he is now, in this group of players all time, leading them but out of the conversation of players who never won it, obviously. Which is what the thread is about. To make that clear.

Good list. Elgin Baylor may be the best to never win one. Other greats (In addition to the list above) to never win the big one:

Reggie Miller Patrick Ewing Allen Iverson Gary Payton (not quite great)

It’s not a coincidence that Stockton, Malone, Barkley, Miller, Ewing and Payton were all thwarted repeatedly by Jordan. If it wasn’t for MJ, those guys probably all have titles.

Payton won 1 with the Heat in '06. Not his prime, but sure he'll take it. Great player. The best mixture of offensive and defensive player ever in the point guard position.

I love AI, but I don't know how you guys can put him in that category. AI is the type of guy that makes it hard for a team to win a championship. He's fucking awesome and he has more heart than anybody, but he's not that great of a team player. He's the type of player that detracts from his teammates performance. He'll drop 50 points, but he'll do so by taking a ton of shots, and failing to accumulate many assists.

A tad unfair. AI was a good distributor and could play the point in that sense but yeah, he called his own number too often. I think he had licence to do so and because his teams sucked he had to take so much of the scoring burden. I think with even another All-Star, he would have had at least 1 ring by now.

I just hope Derrick Rose doesnt head in this direction. He has a sensible head on his shoulders so maybe he wont but the signs worry me.

My point is that he probably wouldn't win with an All-Star, because that other All-Star's game would diminish. AI and another superstar = "this team's not big enough for the both of us." Again, I love AI, and was routing for him when they made it to the finals. But after watching (and loving him) for years, I eventually realized he's a great player, but not the type of great player that improves his teammates performance. If he wasn't, I think he would of gotten a ring.

Jeez this topic turned south. Sorry for interjecting, but Jeff, dude, I think you said that Dirk isnt gonna be in Top 10 or something. Perhaps OP thought you meant he is currently. Miscommunication.

Good list. Agree on Reggie.

No love for Carmelo? CP3? Amare?
