NYC Rent
Thinking about re-signing my place next year to lock in the covid rates. Currently paying ~$900 a month for a tolerable shithole in east village (no natural light, small room, but satisfied with location / proximity to things). I'm making about ~$150k all-in so I definitely have room to stretch the rent budget, but have become accustomed to the nice savings rate.
Curious to hear what the average New Yorker on this forum is paying, and whether it's worth looking for a nicer place or staying put to keep current rent.
Wait, 900 a month in NYC? Wtf
Legit sounds like OP is renting a closet. A friend of mine paid $850 for a room in Astoria in 2019, these places are out there
4 bds 2 ba. Signed at the height of covid when landlords were desperate to fill openings
.
If you're able to hold out until the fall you can easily find a much better place (whether it be a studio, 1 BR, or shared 2 or 3BR) in EV or the surrounding neighborhoods for ~2200-2500 if you wish to go that high.
What’s your base? When I was at that income level I tried to live off of base. I think $2-2.5k is very reasonable. Just depends how much time you spend in your apt. I like having a nice place.
90. Ideally trying to maintain ~40%+ savings rate on base, which is pushing me more towards staying put given that I'll prob have to shell out $2k+ now that covid rates are a thing of the past. Just curious to see if anyone has had success finding a decent place around ~$1.5k in that area
