NYC Studio Locations

I am an analyst at a BB in midtown and am thinking of moving into a studio to no longer live with any roommates. Where are some neighborhoods I should look it?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some neighborhoods in NYC that you might consider for studio apartments, especially given your status as an analyst at a BB in Midtown:

  1. Financial District (FiDi): Known for being quieter, especially outside of business hours, FiDi could offer some good studio options. It's a bit of a commute to Midtown but manageable with public transportation.

  2. Murray Hill: This neighborhood is recommended for its proximity to Midtown, making your commute easier. It's known for having a younger demographic, including many professionals. You can find decent studios in the range of ~$2-2.5k, which might be suitable for your needs.

  3. Long Island City: While technically in Queens, Long Island City offers great access to Midtown with just 1-2 train stops away. The cost of living might be slightly lower here compared to Manhattan, and the area has been developing rapidly with new apartment buildings.

  4. Battery Park City: If your budget allows, Battery Park City is a beautiful and more upscale option. It's very close to FiDi, offering a serene environment by the water. However, studios here can be quite expensive, ranging from $2.5k-$3.5k.

  5. Hudson Square: For a mix of reasonable prices and a rich neighborhood vibe, Hudson Square could be a viable option. It's a bit farther from most offices, so you'd need to consider the commute. With roommates, the cost can be quite affordable, but as you're looking for a studio, expect prices to be in the $1.5k-2.5k range depending on the exact location and amenities.

Remember, the NYC housing market can be quite dynamic, with prices and availability changing. It's also worth noting that the luxury rental market has been offering concessions, so you might find some good deals if you look around. Always check the latest listings on platforms like StreetEasy and consider using the "no fee" filter to save on broker fees.

Depends what your budget is. My friend was able to negotiate something like $2.5 - $3k at Herald Towers close to Ktown post-COVID. Hudson Yards has some very very nice luxury buildings, but you're looking at $3.5 - $4.5k+, though you can find cheaper I'm sure. You get river views, tons of amenities, good food around the area, but if you're the clubbing / bar type, it's a bit far from those hot spots. Personally, I think it's very underrated.

What did they think about living in Herald Towers?

It's great. Very convenient and central. Good cost and solid rooms with decent amount of space and amenities for being in ktown. Windows are a bit small and it lacks an amazing view, but it's a very solid building.
