Opinions about Industry (Series)
Someone on a BB has told me that people at the bank hate the series and that it is completely unrealistic. Recently, I found out that this person is zero representative of the general consensus in his/her bank towards this series, so I want to hear your opinions. What do you think about it, is it really a satire against JPM?
Well, based on the most helpful WSO content, it seems like there are mixed feelings about the HBO series "Industry". Some users are excited about the show, hoping it will shed light on the world of finance and perhaps change public perception. Others are skeptical, fearing it might exaggerate or misrepresent the realities of working in finance.
One user humorously anticipates an episode where an analyst does nothing all day, spends half an hour deciding what to order for lunch, and then stays up late into the night aligning logos. Another user is excited about the drama and the standard 20-something tropes that are likely to be included.
There's also a concern that the show might portray young professionals as having more responsibility and influence than they typically do in real life, which could lead to unrealistic expectations.
As for whether it's a satire against JPM, based on the WSO Dataset, there's no specific mention of this. The show is about young professionals entering the world of finance and the challenges they face, but it doesn't seem to target any specific bank or institution.
Remember, it's a TV show, so it's bound to have some dramatization and exaggeration for entertainment purposes. It's always best to take such portrayals with a grain of salt and not as a true reflection of the industry.

Its back season 3. Yay.
Great, I need to tell my wife that it’s not porn but a satire of the banking industry that I am watching.
The sperm thing on S1 was too much for me.
Well, you can forward that part, which i also had a problem with but this season so far looks good.
They're trying to recapture a sliver of the magic that was Billions in its first few seasons. They've failed, miserably. It's dogshite.
The writers worked at Morgan Stanley London. Probably took the "Pierpoint" inspo from the JPM name though.
Everyone I know loves it the same way people like litquidity/ig finance memes - it takes the stereotype and dramatises it to absurdity. It's also pretty well acted, characters are decent. People like seeing what they do dramatised and layman's like the idea of Wall Street in media because so few know really what it is. So it's not shit but it's not Billions either.
I find myself watching it as an absurdist comedy more than anything tbh.
Outside of maybe Scrubs, I think very few shows that focus around a specific career ever do well with telling a fairly realistic story.
