Pets !
Does anyone here own a pet? How do you keep them fed, cleaned up, and vet-checked on time while being at work all the time?
Couple of years back I adopted 3 kittens who are now grown-ups and I want to reclaim them from my mother's house. Is it boneheaded move?

Cats are low maintenance.. borderline fish level. That being said, would not want the extra responsibility.
^ this - definitely more low-maintenance than a dog which needs a lot more play time and walking.
Still, it depends on the individual cat and its personality though. Some can just chill on their own terms whilst some can be very needy and will demand attention. They do need some play time and affection but again not as much as dogs would. As for grooming you should brush them often to minimize hairballs (if you know you're busy best stick with shorthairs or hairless; longhair breeds need more maintenance) and nail clipping happens once every 1-2 months - DO NOT declaw it's very bad for them. Since your cats are now older I'm assuming they've had shots already. Booster shots are a once a year event. Vet appointments need to be booked well in advance though, at least in recent times.
If the cats are bonded (eg. Siblings and grew up together and do everything together) it is usually better for them to go together because they can socialize especially when you’re gone. However having more than 1 can be a handful. Sometimes cats need individual litter boxes; can’t imagine handling that in a NY apartment. But if they aren’t bonded then having 1 is chill. There are many automatic toys and feeders out there but still make sure you have some time for them, whether it's when you wake up, before bed, weekends, etc.

--> TL;DR: If you insist on getting one then make sure it will be happy and independent enough but also cared for adequately - animals can get depressed too. If your roommate(s) are chill with pets it might help to have extra caretakers. I suppose you can always send the cat back to your mum if it proves to be too much or if the cat is unhappy but of course consider the decision carefully - it is a life after all.
Cats are great! I've got one myself, thinking of getting a second just so he has someone to play with when I'm working extra long hours. I think they're way easier for folks in PE/IB by far. I've got a friend as HF who had a dog but that was tough and only really worked because he has a stay-at-home gf to take them out for walks and such regularly.
Comments here are pretty spot on. OP, cats are a lot of fun, especially that you have 3 they'll keep each other company.
I didn't like the idea before, but try to get them auto feeders & dispensers. Makes things a lot easier
Not to mention an auto litterbox or two. Not exactly the most cheap option but it makes a huge difference.
Hello! Yes, I have pets. I am a happy owner of 2 cats who are an integral part of my life. I buy them cat food so they never go hungry. As for the veterinarian, we go there once every half a year for an examination and immediately go there if there are any health problems. The biggest problem when you have cats is the worms and how long after deworming a cat are the worms gone. This is by far the biggest problem I've had so far, so I recommend doing it now so that your kitties do well)
My dad usually has a cat and I visit everyday.
He had an exotic snow bengal cat and it got stolen. We got another snow bengal and someone stole this one too. Now the current cat is an indoor cat. Pretty chill - super hyper. She's quick.
