the main event will answer so many questions in the mma community. you have perhaps the only elite BJJ competitor who has made the transition successfully to MMA who can also hit hard AF (coming from justin gaethje, oliveira hits harder than chandler, poirier, khabib, tony, etc.) versus a guy who javier mendez said is a more complete fighter than khabib. I AM SO PUMPED. is the dagestani style better than BJJ + elite level kickboxing? will oliveira's aggression be too much for makachev or will the relentless dagestani training neutralize that effect? is the russian style of grappling able to counter elite ground game by someone like oliveira?

I don't do market predictions but I do do UFC predictions, here it goes

  1. oliveira barely beats makachev, 5th round TKO a la usman/covington 1, they neutralize each others grappling and it's a bloody fight from islam doing ground n pound to oliveira doing some of the same, but oliveira's cardio and his perfectly placed punches are enough to get the job done late. even with the loss islam gets named #1 contender
  2. sterling beats dillashaw because it's the one fight TJ's not on EPO for
  3. yan beats o'malley and the question becomes is it vera v. aljo or do they give yan the rematch. as punishment o'malley has to shave his hair
  4. brady beats belal and gets matched up with gilbert burns for a title eliminator
  5. dariush puts on an impressive performance and gets a bonus, reminding people why he was in the title conversation, my money has him getting the next title shot at 155 if volkanovski doesn't come up in weight. poirier is 0-2 in title fights, chandler 0-2 since a boring win over dan hooker, gaethje 0-2 in last 2 title tries, give benny a chance

interesting....

agree with 2,4,5.

I think Oliveira wipes the floor with Makachev- Oliveira has way better standup and invites people to ground/is fantastic off his back. We can't underestimate the lethality of a true BJJ black belt. Saw something similar when Chimaev (combat sambo specialist) decided he didnt want to go to the ground with Gilbert Burns (a REAL BJJ Black belt) after nearly getting caught in an arm bar. I think its an early round sub from Oliveira.

O'malley vs Yan is a tossup because Yan is a dog but O'malley has crazy range and decent takedown defence to avoid any grappling from Yan.

^ might be a bit of wishful thinking as im a big O'malley fan lol

yeah and when you think about the common opponents (poirier & gaethje), oliveira had in my opinion WAY better performances than khabib. khabib got into a headlock against poirier and was in real trouble whereas oliveira softened him up bigtime in R2 and then put him away easily in 3. gaethje made khabib nearly get drop foot from leg kicks but went away in 1 round against charles. like I said, this fight answers so many questions and call me crazy, if oliveira does like you say he does, it makes for a VERY interesting LW GOAT conversation. so far, still khabib, but if oliveira can add the 2nd coming of khabib onto his already impressive resume, you cannot deny the man

admittedly, I'm biased and want oliveira to win, but trying to couch that because AKA is a legit gym and I have to take khabib at his word that islam is the truth, even if all he's done is beat moises, hooker, dober, and bobby green (yawn)

Also the Porier, Chandler, Gaethje circlejerk at lightweight needs to be stopped. All 3 dudes begging to fight each other then the winner begging for a title shot as if they deserve it. These dudes need to stfu and prove themselves against the best in the LW division. Arman Tsarukyan, Rafael Fiziev, Guram Kutateladze, Damir Ismagulov, etc. Hell even Damir and Arman have no choice but to fight each other Dec 17 since every top 10/top 5 is ducking them. RDA ran from Arman by saying he's moving up to 170 and fighting Bryan Barberana. Gaethje ducked Fiziev by his management saying they don't want any new prospects making a name off Gaethje (scared much?).

I love that you are also a man of culture. My heart goes to Oliveira as a fellow floor monkey but this will no doubt be the hardest opponent to submit out of any he's ever faced. My favorite card going in for as long as I can remember.

Bro what.... This is probably the best card of the year and the prelims are fucking stacked. Caio Borralho v Muradov, Armen Petrosyan v AJ Dobson, Oezdemir v Krylov, Belal v Sean Brady, Muhammad Mokaev also fighting who has a very promising career and can possibly become the youngest UFC champ. Every fight on this card is a banger on paper of course and I'm sure most of them will be entertaining

Anyone ever watch Bare Knuckle fighting? It’s pretty entertaining/hardcore. My friend has competed in one fight with them.

I've seen clips of it but I can't help but feel like its a little too barbaric to ensure strong, well-thought-out competition....maybe I'll give it a full chance though

It is barbaric - people get f-ed up….

Yup I am hyped for Caio's fight as well. I was rooting for my man Armen Petrosyan in Caio's last fight but Caio's ability to take him down so easily made me a fan. Armen had his whole camp in Dagestan and couldn't stop a takedown to save his life, weird. Both of them fight on that card, looking forward to both fights. Caio also spent a month or two training with Khamzat in Sweden so who knows what we'll see.

Arman made it a great fight. I think Caio's unorthodox, mixed approach along with his unreal athleticism made him the better fighter there. Good fight from both though.

what's your predict on Islam Oliveira?

I think Oliveira wins by TKO.

He's a demon. I love this division, it just doesn't disappoint. Can't wait for the rematch.
