Subtle/humble bragging

Anyone else here sick of it?

Part of me really wants to go on a one week streak where all I do is call people out when they drop a subtle brag in their sentence, both in person and online.

Who's with me?

Methinks you will be calling out a lot of Harvard grads.

I definitely see your point OP, this really used to bother me as well. At some point though I just learned to tune out all the humble-brag losers, keep my nose down and now I'm a top performer in a hot group. You'll meet a lot of people who go out of their way to flaunt their accomplishments and network (trust me, basically all my friends are at top funds and banks, and they say it's the same everywhere), but at the end of the day, when you're out there cranking on industry-defining mega-deals, your accomplishments will stand on their own; no need to sink down to their level.

I don't think I'd ever get laid without the humblebrag.

yeah forgot to note that using it to get laid is ok, up to a point, we all do it, i just dont want to hear my friends do it unless it's a) actually working or b) so over the top that it's funny

Finally someone said something about this... absolutely dispose it.

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

Why call them out? Do you not have enough accomplishments in your life to out humblebrag them? If so you need to take a long hard look in the mirror and step up your game.

Bingo! Just immediately mention a bigger accomplishment under an even humbler facade.

1) i've seen you humblebrag a shit ton on this site, so your response doesnt surprise me

2) fuck that, nothing worse than a humblebrag battle/convo,

yes i do have enough accomplishments in my life, i just try to stay neutral and tell things how they are w/out a slant. There's a time and a place for it, and a suave / right way to do it (which most people aren't good at) and a lot of people who do it don't realize how douchey they actually sound, unfortunately.

so the lesson is, if you're going to humblebrag, please do it with a conscience.

i'm not REALLY going to start calling people out, i'm just going to keep biting my tongue, just wanted to vent cause it annoys the f out of me sometimes

There is no such thing as being truly humble.

The only reasons why people 'act' humbly is either to a) make people think they are humble or b) make people think they're holding back a lot of their impressive achievements / attributes.

A truly humble person is in fact delusional and believes that their achievements are genuinely less than they are. Either that or they are part of the 0.00001% who don't have any esteem issues.

ok well there's group a) those who are conscientious humblebraggers, and group b) those who are not, and there's nothing worse than someone who is in group b, but is convinced he/she is in group a

The humblebrag is MUCH worse than a normal brag. I'm just disappointed Seinfeld is no longer around because I'd love to see 'the humblebragger' character.

This to all my hatin' folks seeing me getting guac right now..

If you care at all, you most certainly are envious of whatever they get to brag about. If you were better or truly didn't care, you wouldn't even notice.

yeah you're wrong on that one, but maybe i should just pay less attention to what people say, i mean 90% of what comes out of someone's mouth isn't worth listening to anyways right?

Believe me, having went to The Wharton School, I've come across a lot of humble braggers in my life and there's nothing worse. Not to mention when you spend the majority of your time dealing with executives and directors, everyone has an ego and they all just want to hear themselves talk. It's easy to shut them down though - just outsmart them and flip the whole thing around on them by mentioning one of your million dollar investments or past awards you've won.

BlackHat and I used to run track at Wharton. I was miserable every time I lost to BH in the 200m dash because I kept tripping over my huge c0ck. #FML.
