Technical Interviews

Been reading WSO lately and first time posting. I am a Junior who want to know more about IB. Just a question and hoping you guys can shed some light on it: the extent of Accounting/Finance knowledge required for the technical interviews? Keep in mind that I am a rare bred here as someone without finance-related internship experiences.

It seems to me that majority of members here have obtained an internship prior to the interviews so the technical skills are not the focus of discussions. I have been able to obtain some formulas and calculation methods but they seem discrete without specific questions. The guides are also a bit expensive for a student like myself. Any links regarding to technical interviews would also be appreciated.

Thanks.

Do you have any knowledge of accounting? If not, that is probably the place to start. There's no need to go overboard with it, but you should familiarize yourself with basic-intermediate accounting to such an extent that you are able to understand a 10-k. If you are proficient in accounting, then Macabacus, Rosenbaum's Investment Banking book, and older versions of interview guides are probably your best bet. The first option is free by default, and you can find the other two online if you google hard enough. Best of luck!
