FT 2024 NYC Roommate Search Thread

Hello everyone, my apologies if this is the wrong forum for starting this discussion, but my roommate and I are seeking a third (or fourth) person to live with starting in June/July of 2024 in Manhattan. Our offices are located in Midtown and although an ideal commute would be under 30 minutes, we are still really flexible with location preferences.

We are both going into banking but have no preference for what industry you might be in. The goal is to find a 3 or 4-bedroom where the per-room cost comes to $1500-1750 (before utilities and broker fees).

We both will graduate this spring. I enjoy working out, watching sports and F1, and love EDM music. He enjoys working out, reading, and working on cars. We roomed together in college and did a good job of keeping our place clean, so if any of this might interest you, please feel free to send a PM or drop a comment!

Based on the WSO threads on roommate searches, here's how you can effectively find a roommate for your NYC housing needs in 2024:

  1. Post Details Clearly: You've done a great job detailing your preferences and interests. Make sure to include any specific requirements or deal-breakers to avoid any misunderstandings later.

  2. Utilize Social Platforms: Besides posting here, consider using LinkedIn and Facebook groups dedicated to NYC housing or roommate searches. There are specific groups for people in finance and banking which might increase your chances of finding someone compatible.

  3. Engage in Networking Events: Since you are both going into banking, attending industry networking events could also be a good way to meet potential roommates who are in the same professional sphere.

  4. Virtual Meetups: Before deciding on a roommate, organize a few virtual meetups to discuss living habits, expectations, and compatibility. It’s important that everyone's on the same page to ensure a harmonious living situation.

  5. Budget and Expenses: Clearly outline how utilities, rent, and other expenses will be split. Transparency in financial responsibilities can prevent conflicts.

  6. Visit Potential Apartments Together: When you start your apartment hunt, make sure all roommates are involved in the decision-making process. This ensures that everyone is satisfied with the final choice, considering factors like commute time, neighborhood safety, and nearby amenities.

Feel free to reach out if you need more specific advice or resources!
