The good [CEOs] ones are hard to find
I was reading The NYT Corner Office column on Mark Bertolini, the CEO of Aetna. Aetna is in the news because of the merger agreement they have with CVS.
This guy Bertolini sure looks like a decent guy, or...very different than most [as in 99%] of CEOs and C-Suite level people that I know.
"We cut our share buyback in half. We didn’t increase our dividend until we had a lot of extra cash on hand. You get the shareholders you deserve." -David Gelles interview with Bertolini, NYT
He also raised the minimum wage years ago to $16.
Most CEOs are not interested in the welfare of the bottom-rung employees.
They bait-and-switch and backtrack often.
Do you know what it takes to be a CEO?
How do you work your way to the top?
The Book of The Underdog discusses that.
The Rules of the Game
From the Author
The Danger of Information Falling into the Wrong Hands
"When you have this spellbound material, it begs the question: What if it falls into the wrong hands? What if the Harvard-types,already gorged in profit, power, and influence are going to read it? They're the bosses, they got the goods, they're the kings, you're the pawn. Are you going to get pounded, again? This handbook could turn a Goliath into a Goliath on steroids. Look, there's no way I can prevent the haves from getting their hands on it. Yes, if they apply it, their game is going to go through the roof. They'll get bigger. They'll expand. They'll build empires adding to the ones they already have. But at least you get a fighting chance. At least the underdog gets to fight another day. You may come up against a stronger enemy, but when they hit you, you'll that more likely to survive. You'll be more offensive and less defensive. In the large scheme oft hings, it doesn't matter where you are now. What matters most is where you're heading. It's likely the rich and powerful already know, apply and use most or some of the knowledge in this book" - Book of the Underdog excerpt, printed with permission
