This is the Saddest Day in Baseball
Mariano Rivera has suffered from a torn ACL and could possibly miss the entire season. There was strong belief that this was his last season..
I'm a huge Yankees fan and I've never felt more devastated in a baseball moment than today. Felt like tearing up when I heard Mo speak during the post game. Everyone in the team felt like tearing up..
Not a Yankee fan, I hate them actually, but I have tremendous respect for Rivera. Hopefully he can come back towards the end of this season, or next, and finish his career on his own terms.
That press conference was really painful to watch. =/
and it wasnt even from playing..it was batting practice..really upsetting and unfortunate
What the hell was he doing shagging fly balls anyway?
1) He shagged flies before games everyday for the last like 15 years so that is a completely irrelevant topic to discuss.
2) I'm sure the Yankees will just go out and drop 100M on another closer to fill the gap.
3) IamObama, are you from New York or are you one of those Yankees fans that grew up in the midwest and jumped on the bandwagon in the mid 90s?
All that being said, you never want to see a guy's career potential end due to injury, particularly a legend.
I'm from New Jersey.
As much as I respect Rivera, I can't help but think how many Yankee fans would be gloating right now if it were someone from another team.
Tragic. Absolutely tragic.
Happy, what the hell does it matter if he's from NY or not? I moved here twelve years ago from the midwest and have been following the team ever since. Does that make me less of a yankee fan? Don't be one of those dicks that says "you're not a true yanks fan if you weren't born in NY". That's completely retarded. Those folks deserve a fisting.
Don't be such a fucking twat about it. Everyone knows you're the shit because you live in NYC. Fist yourself.
hey turdblossom, get off the pool stick, it's too early for that nonsense. If berating kids from the midwest for being Yankees fans makes you feel better about yourself, go for it.... yes, happy, you are a bigger yankees fan than they are. Warm/fuzzy now? You are the biggest yankees fan OF THEM ALL.
Dude, you're all rooting for the same team- chill out. It's totally legit to root for a team that's not on your home turf. For instance - I like Bayern Munich. I've never lived in Munich, but lived in Hamburg for a few years. Does that make me less of a fan?
Here's an answer: I don't give a sh*t what some stranger on the internet says- who by my calcs, has spent... about 761 hours of his life posting on an anonymous internet board, figuring an average of 5 minutes per post. You've been a member for a little under 2 years... so, thats 17,520 hours. Back of the envelope.... damn... you've spent about 5% of the past two years of your LIFE posting on this board. Get out more, bud. There's a big world out there.
I hate the shit out of the yankees actually which is why people, like Lebron, wearing a yankees hat to an Indians game, infuriates me so much.
By the way, I'm going to start using turdblossom.
Also, while this is tragic, I think we can agree there have been much more tragic days in baseball. (Roberto Clemente's death, Lou Gehrig's retirement, etc.)
5/3/12 - New New Day of Infamy
Much sadder than the last Day of Infamy (Jeter becoming the Yankee hit King - 9/11/09)
Real talk: it hit me hard when I realized, holy shit, he might actually NEVER pitch again. He might actually retire. So sad.
I hate the Yankees, but Rivera was all class and just an incredible player for all these years. Sad to see him hurt - hopefully he can come back and end his hall of fame career on his own terms.
Regards
Mo... the legend of legends
