Based on the highest ranked content on WSO, here are some travel recommendations for a ~5 day trip between Christmas and New Year's Eve:

  1. Iceland:

    • Highlights: Very accessible from NYC/east coast, short flight, and probably the highest concentration of natural beauty in the world.
    • Ideal Time: Late September to now, making it a great option for a December trip.
  2. Amalfi Coast:

    • Highlights: Great food, super relaxing, and very beautiful scenery.
    • Weather: While it might be cooler in December, the beauty and relaxation make it worthwhile.
  3. Budapest:

    • Highlights: A ton to do and see, with very affordable alcohol.
    • Activities: Explore the historic sites, thermal baths, and vibrant nightlife.
  4. Ibiza:

    • Highlights: Known for its beaches and nightlife.
    • Stay: Ushuaïa on the beach is a popular choice.
  5. Prague and Munich for Oktoberfest:

    • Highlights: Although Oktoberfest is in September/October, these cities are still great to visit in December for their Christmas markets and festive atmosphere.
  6. Colombia:

    • Highlights: Currently a hot destination with beautiful beaches and vibrant culture.
    • Activities: Consider visiting Medellin and taking trips to Colombia's beaches like Tayrona.

These destinations offer a mix of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and relaxation, making them ideal for a short trip during the holiday season.

Hit Rincon solo in this exact window this past December… went out surfing with a local guide and tried to hit all the good bars / restaurants. Was unreal, absolutely loved it there I’ll be back hopefully this coming winter

Hard to make a recommendation when the answer could literally be anywhere in the world.

Do you want to be cold or warm?

Domestic or foreign?

How about Indonesia? I know a lot of people might choose Europe because it's winter but I think Indonesia would be perfect Indonesia is honestly such a gem. When we visit there  the weather is perfect - hot and sunny without being overwhelming. And there's so much natural beauty between the beaches, jungle areas, volcanoes and other things to do when we visited there  the culture is also really interesting, and the food is amazing. You get influences from across Asia. And since it's the other side of the world, it feels totally removed from the chaos of Western Christmases. I think it would be such a great way to spend the holidays but if you want more of this place you could check out this article I've read  https://gowithguide.com/blog/indonesia-tourism-statistics-2023-all-you-need-to-know-5383 take time to read if you have time! I hope this recommendation helps you!

5 days isn’t really enough for Indonesia - takes 1 day to get there and get back so visit would only be 3 days.

How are people going to give reasonable recommendations when they have no idea where you are coming from. Living in NY / SF / London / Asia means many different optimal vacation spots due to a limited time of 5 days.
