Trip to Miami
Taking a solo trip to Miami this month for a week, anybody got recommendations? I have a few things planned already but wondering if anyone else has ideas.
Staying in South Beach so walkability would be cool, but I wouldn't mind a short uber/lyft.
Check out South Pointe Park in South Beach on a Sunday afternoon/evening
Place looks awesome, I'll check it out
Go to the beach and hit on beach babes laying on the sand
That is part of my "existing plans" haha
Really? At the beach, solo? In Europe this is heavily frowned upon
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy sports (planning on hitting up a Panthers hockey game). Really looking forward to checking out Little Havana for one of the days so food/booze tourism I guess. Might check out some cigar shops. Beach time is a must. Not really a fan of super clubby atmospheres, but enjoy a nice outdoor or dive bar.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but a lot of Little Havana is sketchy if you're planning to walk around there solo...
When people talk about how great Miami is on this site, they're really talking about Brickell, 5 star hotels in SoBe that they never leave, and parts of Downtown during the day (although at night Downtown too is rough). Don't assume the rest of the city is like this.
Honestly if your goal is to walk around and feel the city if I were you I'd stay in a nice hotel in Brickell and then Uber when you want to hit the beach. You're pretty much going to be Ubering from SoBe everywhere else save when you're actually at the beach.
Cafe La Trova in Little Havana is a must do. It was ranked 28 I think of the best bars in the world.
The Wharf is a great outdoor bar right next to the Miami River - I had the best time there in terms of atmosphere and luck with women. There’s a chill bar outside near the water where you can talk to people, or if you’re looking for something more hype, you can head towards the center and there’s another bar there with music blaring and everyone getting wasted.
For outdoor vibes head over to brickell - the city center is really nice
South Point Park is great for walking around. There's a cool pier that goes out into the ocean and the beach is much quieter than it is the more north you go. Lincoln Road is like an outdoor pedestrian street mall on 17th street in Miami Beach. If you wanna check out the night life, Liv, Story, and e11even are the big clubs but you need to buy tickets. Going out in Wynwood is fun, the Oasis is a cool spot. the Wharf is fun on Fridays but it's downtown. Watr is a cool rooftop bar at the 1 Hotel. Closer to 5th street in South Beach is a hidden Mexican restaurant called Lulu's. Crandon Beach on Key Biscayne is nice and more relaxed than South Beach. The Design District is a cool place to walk around too, but it's above Wynwood which is above downtown. Brickell is a cool area too. Tobacco Road is an old fashioned bar thats a lot of fun.
Thanks! I'm not much of a club guy, I'll have to do some digging in those neighborhoods to find the more relaxed bars. Are there any good cigar shops/lounges that you know of?
Casa de Montecristo in Brickell. It might just be called Prime Cigar now. Best whiskey sour I've ever had
Keep us posted about your move in a SF vs. Miami thread in a month or so lol
Absolutely. Seems idiotic to move out of Miami but the job offer was just too good
Hit up The Abbey - local dive bar the next block over from Lincoln Rd. Bodega has a club in the back room. Mango’s is a pretty cool club for an overall tourist trap. My favorite Italian restaurant is Hosteria Romana on Espanola Way. I enjoy Bar Nancy and Union Beer in Little Havana.
Just remember to be very careful and aware of your surroundings on South Beach - lots of strong arm robberies, shootings, and stabbings over the last few years. I moved up to Broward to get away from it all.
I appreciate the heads-up
Before going to south beach be sure to watch some Detroit urban survival tactical videos
