Visiting NYC for break, looking for suggestions on the best restaurants/bars/clubs/etc.

Good luck having a good time in nyc on a budget of 2k lol. You staying at the best western haha

2k will get you a ballin hotel for the week but not much else

The Good Room in Brooklyn is really hot right now.

suggested itinerary:

(remember, its cold now in NYC -mid 50's-, but not below freezing anymore...so a day picnic/lounging on the grass in central park won't be much fun...but neither will ice skating at roc center)

evening entertainment activities 1) stand-up comedy club (comedy cellar) 2) theatrical play 3) improv/sketch theatre (there are a couple - these are the source of saturday night live...i prefer "The Pit" over UCB) 4) dance club (latin, techno, hip hop, 80's/90's..etc....whatever you like) 5) broadway musical (find one that you like...there are many) 6) opera or ballet

i suggest having one big thing planned each day...and then figure out other stuff around it (shopping, museums,dinner, drinks, dancing, etc..)

classic new york restaurants that you should really try to goto -WolfGangs steakhouse (many locations - get the porter house for 2, a slice of canadian bacon, and the wolfgang salad to share - trust me) -Blue Ribbon (the original in soho on Sullivan - where chefs go late night) -Pearl Oyster Bar in the west village (get the lobster roll and a bucket of steamers) -Katz Deli (either the corned beef of pastrami sandwich - pickles and half sour tomatoes) -Dons Bogam korean bbq on 32nd street in k-town -get the spicy beef bbq platter -early brunch/lunch at Golden Unicorn in chinatown on the weekend for dim sum between 10-12 is best -Frank (east village 5th street at 2nd ave)

I have never been, but have always heard that Vaselka is a great dive restaurant. I'll also suggest Patsy's in Harlem for pizza (The rest are NOT the same company/owner) and Blind Tiger on Bleeker for beer and pub food if you can get there early on a weekday before the crowds. Fish across the street has a great oyster special too, but everything else is overpriced. Diving into billy-burg and hitting up Brooklyn Brewery/Fette Sau/St. Anselm/Barcade is also fun.

For other attractions, I love the Met and the Cloisters (also the Met) both of which are practically free. (last time I went to the cloisters I put down $0.25 for three people and asked for change, which unfortunately they didn't have) I've also heard good things about the old Whitney, which is now "The Met Breuer" but have never been. MoMA and the Whitney are also good, but are >$20 per person.

If it's nice out (hit or miss in March) consider hiking central park. I like going in towards the middle on 110th and seeing the revolutionary war fort, then just improvising walking my way down. You've got to hit up Belvedere castle, and Bethesda fountain is also a nice stopping point too.
