VP Flirting With Me (I don’t like it)

I work at a satellite office at one of the big bulge bracket firms, and I’m currently an analyst. One of the VPs in my office constantly flirts with me - I am a male and she’s a female. I’ve tried reporting this, but nobody takes me seriously because I’m the male. I went to HR but nothing has happened. It’s been two months.
Any recommendations on what I should do I’m afraid of getting fired and I really do want this job

Navigating workplace harassment can be a tricky affair, especially when traditional gender roles are reversed. Here's a game plan based on the highest ranked content on WSO:

  1. Document Everything: Keep a detailed record of all instances of flirting or inappropriate behavior. Note dates, times, what was said or done, and any witnesses.

  2. Firm Policies: Review your firm's policies on sexual harassment. Understanding these will give you a clearer picture of your rights and the processes in place.

  3. Follow Up with HR: Since you've already reported to HR, follow up in writing. Provide them with the documentation you've collected. This creates a paper trail that's harder to ignore.

  4. External Advice: Consider seeking legal advice or contacting an external workplace harassment organization for guidance on how to proceed.

  5. Support Network: Build a support network within your firm if possible. This could include colleagues who have witnessed the behavior or others who have experienced similar issues.

  6. Stay Professional: Continue to perform your job duties to the best of your ability. Don't let the situation affect the quality of your work.

  7. Consider a Transfer: If the situation doesn't improve, you might want to consider requesting a transfer to another department or team.

Remember, no job is worth compromising your well-being. If the situation becomes untenable, it may be time to consider opportunities elsewhere where a respectful and professional work environment is upheld.

Sorry. This is crazy and shouldn’t happen. Not sure what constitutes the flirting so hard to give real shut it down advice. But as a woman here is how we shut it down “don’t talk to me like that”, “that’s not funny”, “that’s inappropriate”. Just use those types of sentences. Nothing more and nothing less although I don’t understand how HR can take a potential sexual harassment issue from a senior person to a junior person lightly. Seem aggregious to me.

Like the unadjusted- only with a little bit extra.

The exit opportunity in this scenario is wild. Do you have documentation of your report to HR? If you know your bank is about to have layoffs you could start slouching and then hit them with an unlawful termination suit. Other option would be to contact HR again, document everything and if nothing changes then lawyer up. So you got at least two options but just remember they can’t fire you for escalating to HR.

learn how to flirt back bro

Nothing beats being the hot guy in the office. It's always funny to see the women that talk about feminism and creepy guys on one side of their mouth grab and grope you during happy hours with the other.

The only annoying thing with women is they assume all guys just want to sleep with them (them specifically). So they will hit on you, and if you dont reciprocate they will often just think you are being dense and so they double down. However, they still want you to make the first move so they never fully extend themselves to straight asking you out. This creates a situation where they are violating your personal space and making you uncomfortable while still maintaining plausible deniabilitiy. It's like extending soft power

At least a good ol ass grab is direct

Honestly, I disagree with the folks saying it doesn't matter if she's hot. Women professionals took #metoo widely far and in general receive vastly more favorable treatment in the workplace than male counterparts. They deserve to have it thrown back in their face and there need to be more cases like this aggressively prosecuted. Start documenting everything so you have specific dates and examples you can reference back to. Give some lingering glances here and there so she feels emboldened but never reciprocate, just pretend to be indifferent if anything. Let it build to a point and I'd bet you money if there's ever an opportunity with drinks involved she'll attempt something physical given the power dynamic. When she does, you've hit the HR lawsuit lottery.

So stick it out without kicking up too much dust, there may be a pot of gold and a general win for the workplace waiting for you at the end.

Flip the sexes. Would this be appropriate and would you give the same advice?

As an actual adult....here is my response.

Be nice, flirt back. Most women flirt and it is harmless. Nobody is going to make a move in the office. Just keep it as banter.

18% of couples report meeting their spouse at work, so it would appear that in fact many people do make a move in the office...
